Been tracking these for a while, and finally decided to pull the trigger on the HD660s. Not the lowest price ever, but the lack of sales tax to CA and most other states makes up for it!

These are legendary headphones as most folks are aware.

Any recommendation between the three headphones? I know sound is subjective but how difficult they might be to drive is not an issue (headphone amp) so any thoughts are welcome.

Pre-Covid 2019 and earlier the Sennheiser HD600 would be available on sale for $250.
.
Last year, every so often on Amazon or Sweetwater the HD600 used to creep slowly down in price to $287, then shoot back up to retail price. One would have to be vigilant to catch them on the last day price of $287.
.
If these can get back to $250 on Black Friday then they are worth it. That is when I will be purchasing a pair.
.
The Massdrop HD6XX or Sennheiser HD650 is too difficult to drive to reach optimal potential of this headphone unless using a balanced cable and driving them from a powerful amp like the Schiit Jotunheim 2 or better.

Old school Headphonia article 2010, "THE SENNHEISER TRIO: HD580, HD600, HD650"

HD6XX (massdrop version of HD650) for $189 is a much better deal IMO

I'm lucky enough to live near a Sennheiser store and had a chance to test all three. Obviously super subjective, but these were my thoughts: 600 was the most neutral sounding, 650 was the most laid back and easiest to listen to (felt I could listen to that for hours without fatigue) and preferred it for rock, 660S was the most energetic and I preferred it for EDM.

I actually ended up purchasing both the 650 and 660S during this sale because they sounded different enough to me.

Thank you for your comment. It's a tough choice because it's subjective. I'll probably go with the Massdrop HD 6XX since it's a clone of the 650. The slightly cheaper materials aren't an issue since it will strictly be for at-home use.

Hd600 was recently $99 for 10 mins. Both 650 and 600 and the 6xx require a headphone amp. They are all 300 ohms

Headphones.com
HD600 [headphones.com] ($299, free shipping, no sales tax to CA and most other states)
HD650 [headphones.com] ($329, free shipping, no sales tax to CA and most other states)
HD660s [headphones.com] ($299, free shipping, no sales tax to CA and most other states)

it still show I have to pay tax so I end up buying from Amazon for HD650 at $329.99 right now.
