Audiobooks are supported via a 3rd party plugin now.

Plex is already support audiobook. It is called music. Creat a music library called "audiobook" or whatever. Place your audiobook into it.

No. This is only for whoever is running a plex server. I believe you get free mobile apps if you use your sign-in for credentials.
11-23-2022 at 10:09 PM
It is for server. Unlock premium stuffs on the server. If you don't have a big library or don't use plex a lot buying it will not benefit you much.

If you constantly use it and share your library with others, then it is worth the investment.

It's free to download and easy to set up. Give it a try. Buying a subscription doesn't matter for this.

Plex will play 4k on network that have the bandr. If it doesn't then it will transcode it. You can use plex anywhere that have an internet connection, ie outside of your home/local network.

You're only limited by how much storage you have.
11-24-2022 at 10:29 AM
Like the other poster posted. You are limited by your hard drives. You don't upload anything to plex. Plex is a personal media server. All files stay on your computer. Space, bandwidth, power, hard drives, etc is on the person running the plex server, ie you.

There is no size limit for your media files. Plex handle 100gb files or whatever sizes without problems.

Yes you can put plex on any computer that meets it requirements. Plex requirements are pretty low.

Plex is free.

If the internet is down and your plex server is not configured correctly (allegedly some login setting fixes this), you will not be able to use the content from your server except on the PC it is installed. I basically stopped using Plex after I was stuck for 4 hours with nothing to do but twiddle my thumbs because of this.

Imagine being unable to use content at home that you host locally on your network because of some dumb default setting.

Worth it. Plex is great and it's worth supporting the company even if you don't use the extra features.

many features a great though: hardware transcode, skip intro, remote download for trips etc
In 2016 I paid $120 for Lifetime.

I've gotten my money's worth and then some. It's a very well supported platform that has kept up with my growing library, including stellar Dolby Vision and atmos support. I've got live television connected and I've got easy access to all my content no matter where my family travels.

Love plex.
Loved Plex before and got the lifetime pass. It has the best gui of any media mgt software out there.

However, recent upgrades especially shield TV, they have taken away ability to use external player like VLC. Playing 4k movies on shield 2017 is a struggle with the crap ExoPlayer that you are forced to use. It always transcodes and I got tired of trying to figure out the codecs. VLC on the other hand is a beast and plays anything you throw at it in outstanding quality...it's just isn't as clean as Plex.

Overall still a great software, but the innovation and new features have really slowed down. For example, 4K OTA TV recording is not supported and seems unlikely to be supported in the future.

I currently have Plex installed on my FireTV. If I get Plex Pass now, would I be able to uninstall and activate it on AppleTV once I upgrade?

Hoping this works when upgrading from yearly to lifetime. Looks like they credit prorated amount towards it.

Can you use Plex offline yet? Or do they still require phoning home?

What happens if the company folds? Is your Plexserver still usable?

You can install the client on as many devices as you want, no need to uninstall it from your FireTV.
