Worth it. Plex is great and it's worth supporting the company even if you don't use the extra features.

many features a great though: hardware transcode, skip intro, remote download for trips etc
In 2016 I paid $120 for Lifetime.

I've gotten my money's worth and then some. It's a very well supported platform that has kept up with my growing library, including stellar Dolby Vision and atmos support. I've got live television connected and I've got easy access to all my content no matter where my family travels.

Love plex.
Loved Plex before and got the lifetime pass. It has the best gui of any media mgt software out there.

However, recent upgrades especially shield TV, they have taken away ability to use external player like VLC. Playing 4k movies on shield 2017 is a struggle with the crap ExoPlayer that you are forced to use. It always transcodes and I got tired of trying to figure out the codecs. VLC on the other hand is a beast and plays anything you throw at it in outstanding quality...it's just isn't as clean as Plex.

Maybe a dumb question, but would plex be reasonable for running on a synology DS218+ and playing back on a roku? I don't have a lot of content I can't just get on streaming services but it can be a bit annoying to bust out other devices just to play some media.

Yes, that's what I do, it's not optimal but it works.

There was probably some country cheaper than Colombia, but $69.53 is better than $90, so I just rolled with it.

This happened with my MC World Elite card with the message "Insufficient Funds" (but a text message from CapitalOne said my information was wrong and to try again).

My Visa Sapphire Preferred returned the message "Possible Fraud" (or something) a couple of days ago. Never did receive a text message for authorization. I called up Chase and had them stay on the phone with me while I tried again today and it actually went through on its own no problem (the CSR didn't have to do anything).

I was on the fence at $90, but I'm happy enough at $70. I want it mostly for DVR with my $10 Hauppauge XBox USB tuner, so the other options (Jellyfin, Emby, etc) are non-starters and the WinTV application is terrible. The other advantage is giving extended family access via their own Plex accounts, rather than making them users I have to manage.
I tried using Argentina but when I put my cc in it says my cc is from the US.

So if I get this, this will allow hardware transcoding on my Synology DS920+?

Been a windows 10 box running an i3-7100 and 8g ram for years with no problems.

Just grabbed some 14TB drives so I'm the process of switching everything over to unraid and transferring 10TB to the array now.

I've had a TIVO for 10+ years. Just keep replacing the HD in it when it fails. Same box for 10+ years. Only use it for OTA recording.
Can PLEX be used with a TUNER card for local OTA recording (DVR)? Does it have a simple TVGuide menu system for viewing what is playing OTA and recording? Family is NOT tech savvy and I need something simple to replace the ease of use of TIVO. We other devices for paid streaming services we use.
Saw this deal and figured I'd ask before it expires.

Interesting. I wonder what makes this deal popular or appealing to those giving 👍🏼?
I think you have a legit reason for asking. If you ask me, it is pretty obvious that this site is swarmed with bots.

I mean, if you need the paid features then this is way cheaper than monthly (4.99) as soon as you get into multiple years.

bundling this with the dope synology deal going right now: https://slickdeals.net/f/16220662-synology-diskstation-nas-enclosure-ds1621-6-bay-720-ds220j-2-bay-150-free-shipping?src=frontpage

you can whip up a really fun home server to access remotely. synology + Plex just put things on easy-mode. definitely something you could build without plex, but i'm 5yrs into my lifetime pass and honestly i really respect them for constantly pumping out new add-ons/content for me

If you were already thinking about this, I'd jump on it while you can get it for $70. I don't think it's ever been lower. I've spent a few months here and there on the Plex pass, along with paying the one-time fee for a couple devices.

I used a credit card with no foreign transaction fee and set the country to "Colombia", leaving all other address fields matching the true billing address of the card. Transaction went through as $69.53 on my credit card pending charges.

You're abusing lower costs from a great small company that are likely intended for a poorer market.
Plex is a multimillion-dollar business with annual revenue in the millions. The majority of their income is from ads, not one-off, lifetime subscriptions. I think they'll be okay missing out on the $30.

After 15-20 years of alternatives I finally changed over to Plex with Rokus and am pretty happy with it... does everything I need with HDR audio passthroughs, down transcoding audio codecs for my older TVs. So it's all the detailed control I needed from Kodi but with a more intuitive, stable, and less troublesome experience.

I didn't really need the deal but just got it as a vote of confidence for them. Maybe one mobile device client - but I don't watch TV or movies on my phone lol... maybe if I traveled more. So not a slickdeal, more of a vote. Maybe I'll regret it in the next few years, but I'm happy it's made life much simpler while remaining fully functional (.
