many features a great though: hardware transcode, skip intro, remote download for trips etc
I've gotten my money's worth and then some. It's a very well supported platform that has kept up with my growing library, including stellar Dolby Vision and atmos support. I've got live television connected and I've got easy access to all my content no matter where my family travels.
Love plex.
However, recent upgrades especially shield TV, they have taken away ability to use external player like VLC. Playing 4k movies on shield 2017 is a struggle with the crap ExoPlayer that you are forced to use. It always transcodes and I got tired of trying to figure out the codecs. VLC on the other hand is a beast and plays anything you throw at it in outstanding quality...it's just isn't as clean as Plex.

This happened with my MC World Elite card with the message "Insufficient Funds" (but a text message from CapitalOne said my information was wrong and to try again).
My Visa Sapphire Preferred returned the message "Possible Fraud" (or something) a couple of days ago. Never did receive a text message for authorization. I called up Chase and had them stay on the phone with me while I tried again today and it actually went through on its own no problem (the CSR didn't have to do anything).
I was on the fence at $90, but I'm happy enough at $70. I want it mostly for DVR with my $10 Hauppauge XBox USB tuner, so the other options (Jellyfin, Emby, etc) are non-starters and the WinTV application is terrible. The other advantage is giving extended family access via their own Plex accounts, rather than making them users I have to manage.
Just grabbed some 14TB drives so I'm the process of switching everything over to unraid and transferring 10TB to the array now.
Can PLEX be used with a TUNER card for local OTA recording (DVR)? Does it have a simple TVGuide menu system for viewing what is playing OTA and recording? Family is NOT tech savvy and I need something simple to replace the ease of use of TIVO. We other devices for paid streaming services we use.
Saw this deal and figured I'd ask before it expires.

you can whip up a really fun home server to access remotely. synology + Plex just put things on easy-mode. definitely something you could build without plex, but i'm 5yrs into my lifetime pass and honestly i really respect them for constantly pumping out new add-ons/content for me
I used a credit card with no foreign transaction fee and set the country to "Colombia", leaving all other address fields matching the true billing address of the card. Transaction went through as $69.53 on my credit card pending charges.

I didn't really need the deal but just got it as a vote of confidence for them. Maybe one mobile device client - but I don't watch TV or movies on my phone lol... maybe if I traveled more. So not a slickdeal, more of a vote. Maybe I'll regret it in the next few years, but I'm happy it's made life much simpler while remaining fully functional (.
