Not lithium ion - it's Nickle MH.

It doesn't really matter because the batteries will last at least two years of recharge. There are YouTube videos on how to replace the rechargeable batteries.

Just for comparison prior BF deals are $20

Oral B warranty is great. If the nickel MH batteries start having charging issues before 1 year, you can open a warranty claim and they will replace the entire toothbrush with new batteries at no cost.

They even cover free pre-paid shipping label to have you ship back the defective toothbrush

Better than buying every 2 years and filling up the landfills unnecessarily.

IMO, the 1500 is a better deal at $40 when it goes sale to get the Li-ion battery. I've been using mine for over 2 years with no decrease in performance. I hope to not ever have to replace the battery, but if I do it will feel more worth the effort.

I don't know it seems to me it's just easier to buy a new toothbrush every 2 years during black friday. I don't think I have ever even wanted to keep these things for longer for two to three years. They always go on sale.

Avoid. Dont buy. Bought this last BF. The battery life is horrendous. Hardly lasts 4 days if you brush twice daily. Better get something with Li ion pack inside.

Anyone notice how the SD editors changed the OP's title from Target to Amazon and then the listing order? Proves that Amazon pays more in affiliate fees and puts the vendor fees over the members, especially since Target is 5% lower with RedCard. Unethical.
