For example, in my case, I have a Asus Zenbook Flip 13 which has integrated graphics and 2 thunderbolt 4 ports. I put in a RTX 3070 into the Razer core and plug the TB cable into my laptop. It will stop using my integrated graphics and instead use the RTX3070. You can choose to use your laptops internal monitor or plug in an external monitor.
It should also be able to charge a laptop through the TB cable, depending on your laptop.

Can any users comment on the real world impact of running a high end card through one of these at 4x?

Also, the cable comes with it is really short. You probably want to spend another $30 to get a longer cable.
Overall $200 is hard to beat if you don't want to invest in a desktop. A decent PSU + Case is already close to $200. For another $100, you can get the chroma version to use it as a dock.

Are there any devices like this that don't suffer that 20% parasitic loss?
