I have had this for over 6 months now and it works great.
Tip: you must turn On Wireless Android Auto in the settings in order to get it to work after you connect your phone to the MA1.

I can't really answer this question since I keep the phone on a wireless charger when in a car.
But when I don't place it on the charging pad and just keep it in my pocket, it connects automatically and the phone never gets warm or hot.
The best I can tell is that it does not drain the battery since the phone's screen remains turned off.

Yes. It drains pretty quickly, too, at least compared to idle phone use. It's using WiFi, so it's constantly sending and receiving info. For short trips, not an issue. For lots of short trips or long trips, you'll want to plug in. This is not unique to MA1, but is just how it is for wireless solutions.

Wired Android auto too drain battery but it's always plugged in so we don't realize that part.
But its a good solution to get rid of buying costly high quality usb cable frequently.
I liked the solution took 2 minute to start using it from packing.
My always on wireless charging pad with this solution.
