Ads: for a 25 minute show, 1 ad at beginning, 2 ad sections during.
15 seconds, pizza hut, gucci, hbo max ...
Some movies are ad free. 8 bit Christmas for example

Interesting. Two things to consider… If paying through Apple, there's some sort of glitch. It says "You're in a promotional period of $1.99 per month for 3 months." But also right under it, it says "Starting December 21, your plan will renew for the regular price of $9.99 per month until canceled."

I've read in the past that Apple has had a lot of trouble with promotional type deals with their payments. So there's a chance that the next month will charge you $9.99 instead. Fortunately I was able to contact Apple, and while they were unable to resolve the actual promotional issue (they suggested I contact HBO directly), I had them cancel the subscription and refund the $1.99. It would save the hassle if I was charged $9.99 next month. I figured creating a new account and subscribing through HBOMax directly would be less of a hassle.

And the other thing to consider is that 4K content is only through the $15.99 Ad-Free plan.

Did anyone else thing HBO streaming was better when it was HBO Go? I feel like the selection is not as good or maybe its the layout. It's like an overwhleming amount of choice or something, I can't explain it. I used to be able to browse through the entire catolog in HBO Go and add like 7 or so movies to a watch list and in HBO Max I just feel like there's nothing or a random movie here and there.

For movies, do they just play adds before the movie starts and then add free for the duration of the movie like they do on peacock? Or do they hammer you with adds throughout the movie.

HBO shows still without ads?
We just finished up The Wire recently and I believe it was ad free. Also, Treme about Post-Katrina New Orleans from the creator of The Wire was excellent and ad free. That one is a bit more of an acquired taste though. Kinda need an appreciation for the musical scene of N'Oleans.

If you want it for three months you would cancel right after the third charge of $1.99. So, like two months and a day or two after you sign up.
