This is a very good deal. Unless prices drop on Friday or Monday, this is the lowest price per TB out there at the moment... I would gladly pull the trigger, except WD is a crappy vendor that is famous for terrible packaging and shipping their hard drives and then refusing to resolve the problems they created in the first place. As much as I want to get a couple of these drives, I will wait for Amazon or Newegg to match this price.
Any idea what difference does the disk with 128MB cache vs. 256MB cache makes for use in a NAS? I tried searching on google but not finding any direct/easy to understand pointer to read about it. They show 128MB disks more expensive than 256MB cache size disks. I would think more the merrier but based on the price it seems less is better, is it really? Any expert comments?
Would a pair of these work well for a Raid 1 configuration in a Synology? Looking to get the 920+, start with two drive then later add more drives and upgrade to Raid 5 if I need the space.

Yes, exactly what you want unless you prefer a 5400rpm drive for lower power consumption and noise.
Do I need a NAS drive for a 4k plex server? Its 99% going to be 1 stream at the time and it's not going to be used often
It's preferred that you do because the NAS drives are designed to be running 24/7, whereas your standard hard drive isn't made specifically for that. It'll still work, but as far as longevity goes, the NAS drives will likely outlast the standard drive in a Plex server.

Thanks for the heads-up. I almost decided just to go ahead and pull the trigger but I'll also wait to see if Amazon or another retailer matches.
Bumping this question - I'd like to purchase from / pricematch at Best Buy.
On WD, I see for $130 Model: WD80EFBX for the 256mb version
On Amazon I see for $237 Model: WD80EFBX for the 256mb version
On Best Buy, searching for WD80EFBX doesn't turn up anything.
I see an otherwise identical-looking Red Plus listing for $170 that has Model: WDBAVV0080HNC-WRSN, SKU: 6449004
