Okay…. Let's say someone already has an AMD platform and they're looking to upgrade. Are you saying scrapping their AM4 socket motherboard, ryzen cpu, ddr4 memory for an Intel 12 or 13th gen ddr5 platform?

If someone is already on AM4 and they do code compiling or 3D rendering, go for a 5900x, it's similar price to the 5800x3d and you get 12 core 24 thread instead of 8 core 16 thread. And that's only 330-350$

Switching to a totally different platform is minimum $1000. Not even slightly the right comparison. Most people who are looking at this cpu are looking for a cpu upgrade. And even if someone was looking for a brand new system, it's still cheaper than going Intel.

12900kf is 100$ more
Z690 DDR4 motherboards are 180-200$
Z690 DDR5 motherboards are 200-300$
16-32GB for ddr4 is really cheap right now
DDR5 is still gonna be a 170-250$ investment.
Going Intel for the base system not including cpu cooler, power supply case etc is gonna cost about 1000$ DDR4 or 1100-1200 going DDR5.

Base AM4 system
X570 board around 200
Ddr4 memory around 80-100
5900x or 5800x3d is 330-350
Base AM4 system is gonna cost about 650$,

And the difference in performance between those two is very negligible (5900x vs 12900kf) when it comes to production tasks, and more likely GPU bound at the end of the day.

Coming from a 3900x i'm still waiting for this to get cheaper. Granted by then i'll probably just be building a new rig anyway.

from 3900x to 5800x3D, you should be looking at 10-20% improvements in games (given that your GPU won't be the limiting factor). it performs close to 7000 series without upgrading the whole computer. i have a 3900x too, and looking closely at this CPU upgrade; would pull the trigger when it goes below $300.

If you're planning on selling the Uncharted code, keep in mind that to you need to use AMD's verification tool to redeem it. I bit yesterday, with 5% off on the MC Insiders credit card. I haven't installed it yet, just in case a better price comes by between now and Cyber Monday. Either way, I'm eager to upgrade from my trusty 2700x!

Don't use that for much of anything. The 5800X3D destroys the 5700X for gaming. If you are looking for general productivity, sure, the 5700X is a good deal. Yet if you are a gamer the 5800X3D is the chip you want. Here is a more in depth comparison and much better than userbenchmark.

I upgraded from the 3700x and the boost in performance is very noticeable paired with my 3080. I would almost call it a night and day difference in performance.
The 1% lows are better in every single game and my max frame rate has noticeably improved across the board as well.

If you are not already planning on going into the new socket, this is the best you will get on AM4 hands down. I mean it directly competes against the top of the line 7000 series chips.
