This is by far the best VR game available right now. Maybe Horizon will give it a run for it's money, but nothing else is in it's league IMO.

The Orange Box is $1.99. That has HL2 and episode 1&2.
Can you believe I own Orange Box on 360 Disc? Only played Portal back in those days. Yeah, I'm stupid.

I even picked up Black Mesa a while a ago - haven't touched that either (like I said, mountain of backlog). Now, I really don't where to start. LOL. Can I skip HL1? Should I?
Half life 1 hasn't held up as gracefully but it's still a cool story. Especially when you consider the fps single player games out at the time were like.. Goldeneye( hl feels massive in comparison). I haven't beat black Mesa yet but it's a really well done remake from what I've played. Good modernization... I'd say play it through if you jump in and dig it. Hl2 will be more impactful with it under your belt

Wow! Has to be the lowest ever. Warning to others. This makes all other VR games LOOK pathetic.

I'm in the same boat as you, legion 7 and I have a quest 2 but using them as regular vr headsets seems a little convoluted / not as simple as a conventional vr headset
You guys should be fine playing this on Quest 2 with those specs. Easiest solution is to use the wired Oculus Link cable and attach the headset to the computer. But you can also play around with Oculus Air Link (native support for wireless connection to the desktop/laptop) or buy Virtual Desktop on the Oculus store for wireless play. Last I checked Virtual Desktop is still superior to Air Link but that could've changed. But be aware that both wireless options pretty much require a good WiFi 6 router with your machine hardwired into it to minimize latency.

I requested a refund on HL2 so I can just pick up Orange Box (again). I thought it would automatically go through, since I just bought it and haven't played it, but it's still in processing. Never asked for a refund from Steam before. No biggie either way. Thanks for the heads up.

In my experience, Virtual Desktop was worth every penny compared to AirLink. YMMV.

I've played many VR games over the last year and was completely blown away by Alyx. I found this game to be very entertaining and really among the best if not the best FPS VR game currently available - highly recommend.

I still don't own it, because backlog is too much. But, it's right at the top of my wishlist. Might finally pull the trigger.
Legitimately, might be the best game ever made. Send everything else to your backlog and do yourself a favor.

My ROG Zephyrus 14 with a 3060 had no problem crushing this game. You can use Airlink/Virtual Desktop and connect through the laptop's built-in WiFi (set up the laptop as a hotspot) for a perfect wireless playthrough.

Be warned: this game is so good it will kind of ruin the rest of the VR shooters out there.

Highly, highly recommend this game if you have the hardware for it.
For those who already own Half-life 2, there is a free HL2 VR mod available within Steam [steampowered.com] to turn it into a full fledged VR experience. Definitely more challenging and action packed than Alyx, but not for the easily motion-sick, or newcomers of VR. That said, the graphics aren't as nice as the title for this deal (Alyx), and Alyx is un-matched when it comes to a fluid VR experience from the ground up.
This deal (Alyx) after all this time, I feel, is still the best VR experience and definitely worth trying out. The design and way that the hands interact with the VR world just work really well and make one feel like they are there. (Unlike boneworks where my VR hands don't do what I'm trying to do and I get a massive headache).

Only if your laptop is capable of running the game. I don't know the minimum requirements for a computer, especially for this game, for VR, but I'm sure someone else will know. Stay tuned.
Is shadow pc or something similar a possibility?

Can a laptop with 12700H, 3050 and 16 GB ram run this reasonably well? It's a Dell Inspiron 14 Plus.

Yep, I plan on doing that. I'm not getting any younger, and my Mt. Everest of backlog is growing too fast. lol. I need to ask someone to take all my games and sort them for me, prioritize them - I have hundreds of AAA games (thousands total) after all the freebies, and I only recently got back into gaming. It's like drinking through a fire hose.

I'm so tempted to buy this even though I have zero chance of playing it any time soon. Heck, I still haven't finished Lone Echo or played Asgard's Wrath, and now that I have a steam deck, I'm more likely to be working on my pancake backlog. Damn you, Epic.
