Only downside apart from the price is the app. It is absolutely hot garbage. Fortunately you can basically uninstall it if you never change the temperature for different drinks or moods. I tend to change the temperature based on whether I'm using creamers or other mix-ins, or when I'm drinking different teas. I also wish the battery was user-replaceable, because when it finally dies, this will just be more e-waste.
I primarily work from my desk, but this is perfect for taking to a meeting in another room as well. A hot plate could work if I was less mobile, but it also keeps the outside of the mug hotter than the inside. This warms from the inside, so the outside of the mug is just toasty warm. Perfect for cold mornings.

With ember, I finish my drink faster and enjoy every sip as it's my perfect temperature of 134 degrees. The cup comes with a default temperature which you can change when you pair through the app. The cup will actually tell you when it's cooled down from boiling to my ideal temp through the LED light status or app. Also tells you when it's heated up from room temp to my ideal.
Heating up from the mug itself is possible if you don't have a hot water source around. Only thing is that it takes longer than a kettle would for the same Ounces. The coaster provides unlimited charge so it will maintain temperature for a pretty long time. If you walk away with the mug, you have about 80 min ideal temp on a full charge. It is the perfect gift for any tea lover on your list for sure! I'm eyeing one for my boss who currently uses a kettle in her office.
Again, there is no need for this device and I would never have owned one if it wasn't a corporate gift.
