This will not heat a room; only people directly in front of the heater.

1500 watts of electricity being used will always give off the same amount of btu's no matter what... It could be a heater a computer a refrigerator etc. 1 watt is equal to 3.412 Btu's per hour no matter what type of product is using the electricity.

Was it the same form factor? I've seen one at my store, it's a Dr. Heater brand and it's likes $160+

These heaters are not very good sources of heat, tbh. Only if you sit right next to it. Not good for heating a room or multiple people. You are better off with something that moves the air around for whole room heat.

I have a few of these and they work great!

I wonder how that would work for softening paint for scraping if off? Maybe leave it about a foot away for about 20-30 seconds.

Why not just get a heat gun that's made for stuff like that? Probably safer and easier to use.
