Running both of these proven Synology devices after upgrading last year from an RT1900AC. Better wifi range. Connects to Wyze cameras across the street on 2.4G in another building and signal is rock-solid.

The mesh repeater in the house is going through multiple concrete and wood-clad thick walls... signal strength only shows 'Fair' on the connection from router to the M2200AC, but a solid 245Mbit link easily powers 7 devices and streaming TV on the other end of the house and no more switching networks when roaming around the house.

Once set up, rarely have to touch anything but have also configure periodic reboots of devices that happen automatically.

I would buy these again.
Understanding that people have different needs, keep in mind that the RT2600ac is almost 6 years old. If you're looking to better future proof your set up, consider wifi6 / ax router.
This is the best router I've ever used. Fantastic range and robust software.

The RT6600ax is their latest iteration just FYI. Not sure if there will be any deals on it, it's $299.99 on Amazon currently which is better than the $349.99 I saw a few months ago.

2600 has been pretty OK for me. Many of the apps and log storage require external storage. External storage corruption has been a PITA for us (downgraded to USB 2.0 and stable for 6 months now, but been fighting this kind of crap for 4 years).

I have both and they're great but I read somewhere that you should consider using the RT as a mesh repeater and the MR as the router as this should extend your range and link speed. Have yet to try it.

Have this setup and it's been solid day to day. No reboots. Rare to drop connections. Once it completely died on me. Wouldn't power back up. Synology replaced it out of warranty at not cost. Amazing customer service. Though here I am thinking it's pretty old and in need of an upgrade and they're still selling it.

So is one a router and one is an extender? Sorry. I'm not good at this stuff and I need a new router with good parental controls.

This is an extremely solid router, good range, excellent parental controls, amazing app that you can control kids access etc. It is so powerful and versatile (and also easy to use) that it can be a router or an extender, whatever you want. If I could buy this router over again, I would buy it a million times over.

I had this router for many years before sending it to my second home and upgrading it to the newest Synology model.

This is a TERRIBLE price, these should be $40, or less, not because they're
bad, but because they're old.

You'll get two new Belkin RT3200s (AX3200) on eBay for the price of one Synology.

Grab the RT3200, and get 1gbit wifi throughput, while this will max out around 0.6gbit.
Install OpenWRT on the Belkin, and you'll have mesh or roaming, just as the Synology.

(you can install openwrt on this device too)
