"Be warned: the product is now made with coated steel (July 22 purchase) vs aluminum (april 22 purchase.)
The seller reuses the same listing without highlighting the change. The new product is much heavier, looks worse and has inferior build quality than the old version.
Also the lips for holding the laptop is much shorter than before."

I have an older one and these things are not really designed to be on the go things. They have all sorts of edges and whatnot to get snagged on stuff and do take up space and add weight.
Move around the house? They're great.
Oh and it's the pads that hold the laptop more than the lip. It has a material that isn't sticky or even tacky... It's like a silicone spatula. Just enough texture to keep things from sliding too easily.
I love mine and my wife keeps stealing it.
