Not terrible if you must have a new, cheap card. But probably better to go used at this price point and get more value.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

At the rate the rx6600 is falling, I don't think I would bother with this. Plus, if you have an older machine (like mine) with pcie 3.0, the rx6600 would perform even better because the memory bus size is double.

The 6500 is one of those gimped cards put out during the mining craze for a premium price. It Might be worth it well under $100.

I agree. Especially true if you have pcie 3.
But, I just looked at EBay, I was pretty surprised something like a used 1050ti could still demand $100. That seems pretty crazy to me.

Is there any upside for an rx6600 in a pcie 2.0 slot compared to purposely buying an older model?

I really couldn't say on PCIe 2.0.
I'd guess that if you could find an older card (at a very good price) that had a bit width larger than 128 bit and a decent amount of memory, you'd be better off -in the short run-.

Perhaps a GC guru would be better at answering that.

Very true. The used market has been disappointing to say the least lately. But with patience, you can get a GTX 1660 Ti around $100-$125. The mining craze and covid damaged the market so much. Cards that are old still go for much more than they are worth imho.

Prices have already changed. XFX now $169.99 but sapphire is only $149.99! Slick! Should honestly just redo this whole thread geared toward the sapphire card.

If you can afford not to buy the RX 6500 XT, then please do not buy it. It is a joke of a product.

If you're budget constrained, get a used GTX 1660 Super/Ti for $100-$120 or a new RX 6600 for ~$200. There are YouTube channels (Paul's Hardware, Hardware Unboxed, PC Builder, Daniel Owen, Greg Salazar, etc.) that go through the GPU market periodically, so that you can get a feel for what your best bang for the buck is. Good luck!

Noble attempt to make a budget card when prices were sky-high... it could have helped some folks at least get a gpu.

But, at this point with 6600 dipping below 200 already, try to stretch your budget in other places and step up to that or check the used market. This thing is going to be a disappointment.

No way, this isn't worth more than $120.
