Mac makes some seriously great knives. I wish more individual blades where on sale here, since I don't buy sets unless I really need all the included knives.

I'd been really wanting a nakiri knife, pulled the trigger from Overstock. One piece of advice I read all over reddit is that if you're not sure you want a nakiri, just buy the Kiwi nakiri for $6 and play with that. That ended up being really great advice for me, and I *almost* don't even feel like I should even upgrade.

if you are looking for the mth80 , cutlery and more has it for 130

It's normally at 145 ish and 130 is the lowest I've seen it at awhile. The deal with the paring and and the mth80 on the posters link is pretty great though.

It's a great highly reviewed knife. I have one but its more brittle than a german knife . An acquaintance careless flung it into the sink and the tip bent. But it keeps its edge for a long time, but I try to baby mines after the incident. I use it mainly to chop vegetables and slice boneless meat. It's also fairly light. I use a german knife for heavier duty task.

The nakiri is cheaper on overstock.

Can anyone comment on how these compare with Shun Fuji SG2 knives? I am looking for a 8" chef knife and a paring knife as a starter set and eyeing the pro set for $175 which is quite a bit cheaper than Shun.
Shun are known to be one of the worst value offerings in the Japanese knife market. They aren't terrible but you're paying for a lot of marketing costs. Definitely go with another option, whether it be this MAC set or not

Can anyone comment on the professional vs chef line? Wirecutter recommendation is for professional line, but is quite a bit pricier. Thanks

I have quite a few mac knives, most of mine are the superior line, and my 8" chef is the professional line, while I love my professional knives , my superior ones are still fine more than 10 years later, the main difference between the professional vs other lines is the metal bolster, the blades are the same

Our family cooks vegetarian food 9 out of 10 times. Would prefer to buy a set of two or three. Which set shall we buy?

Two on my shortlist are.
1)Kai Pro 3-piece set https://housewares.kaiusa.com/cat...-3-pc-set/
2) 2-Piece Mac Knife Chef Series Set (H-30) https://www.macknife.com/products...2-pcs-h-30

Would these be good for a daily driver kitchen knife? We've been using Cuisinart knives from our wedding that are OK, but we cook enough and enjoy it enough that we want to upgrade to something nicer.
I'd say great daily driver. I've had the mighty and petty and they're solid.

These days I use my takamura more, but these can handle more abuse (and I worry less if I hit a chicken bone)

Hi,

I dont know shit about knives. But I do have shapton and dmt sharpening stones from woodworking and regularly sharpen our existing knifes. I am looking to move up to a really nice chef knife daily driver. I'm gonna yolo whatever you recommend at a 150-200 price range. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

we cut veggies 99% of the time. other 1% is slicing cooked chicken or carneasada. maybe an onion or potato, mostly bell peppers.

Recently picked up a wusthof 8" I believe that I use for my daily or heavyish duty work. Wish they had the paring knife on it's own for sale.

Thoughts on the vegetable cleaver? I cut quite a bit of veggies up but I'm no chef. Unsure if this is overkill for slicing up vegetable plates or for just slicing vegetables to be added to meals.

The vegetable cleaver is the same price on Amazon if you include shipping. Faster with prime and easier to return too

Any MAC Knife sold by "OTTO Group" is not a true MAC Knife product. I'd be careful shopping on amazon because there are many unauthorized sellers, and your warranty will be invalid.

I saw a review that these knives chip easily. I'm bit paranoid about accidentally using these to cut something that isn't complete thawed yet or some veggies that is too hard.

Is that true?
Got my wife a Mac 2-3 years ago for Christmas and she loved it, blade is definitely thinner than her others. Also purchased the recommended sharpener from Mac. She wound up chipping the blade about 1/4 the way from handle. Her other knives maybe not as nice as the Mac, but never had one of them chip. That being said, may get another one this year.

That sounds exactly like what the review said too. First review in Google for "Mac knives review"

Other knives are a bit harder to chip than these

Love Mac Knives, but this is not the greatest sale. Only a few bucks cheaper than the near-regular prices on Amazon with no 5% back on the Amazon card.

Any recommendations on what to sharpen this with? I have a 1000 grit stone but not sure if something else is needed for this style.
