MAC Knife is having their first annual black friday sale. They are some of the top rated knives in the world and used by many world class chefs. These are the best prices I've seen for many of their products.
  • Hand made in Japan
  • Made from rust-resistant Molybdenum High-Carbon cutlery steel
  • Blades are hand-ground, and hand-sharpened on water-cooled stones to optimize the quality of the finished blade
  • The steel has optimal hardness between 57º and 61º Rockwell C and is still easy to re-sharpen.

Mac makes some seriously great knives. I wish more individual blades where on sale here, since I don't buy sets unless I really need all the included knives.
I'd been really wanting a nakiri knife, pulled the trigger from Overstock. One piece of advice I read all over reddit is that if you're not sure you want a nakiri, just buy the Kiwi nakiri for $6 and play with that. That ended up being really great advice for me, and I *almost* don't even feel like I should even upgrade.
if you are looking for the mth80 , cutlery and more has it for 130

It's normally at 145 ish and 130 is the lowest I've seen it at awhile. The deal with the paring and and the mth80 on the posters link is pretty great though.

It's a great highly reviewed knife. I have one but its more brittle than a german knife . An acquaintance careless flung it into the sink and the tip bent. But it keeps its edge for a long time, but I try to baby mines after the incident. I use it mainly to chop vegetables and slice boneless meat. It's also fairly light. I use a german knife for heavier duty task.

The nakiri is cheaper on overstock.

Mac knives are the best! We received a set as a wedding present and we love how sharp and durable they are

very good knives, and symmetrical edges which isn't typical for Japanese blades

Would these be good for a daily driver kitchen knife? We've been using Cuisinart knives from our wedding that are OK, but we cook enough and enjoy it enough that we want to upgrade to something nicer.

Yes, these are miles ahead of cuisinarts, and a good knife is something that will make cooking exponentially easier and fun. I've used a lot of different knives in a long culinary career and the Mac knives are some of my favorites and the best bang for the buck I've found. I handed down one of these to an old coworker and it's still being used over a decade later.

I've used my MAC Chef's knive for 12-years now nearly daily in my home kitchen, and will continuing using it. It's durable, holds and edge, and can be sharpened well over and over again.

Great value knife.

I have the chef's 5 1/2 utility knife and it is my go to knife for just about everything. Smaller than a typical chefs knife but bigger than a pairing knife. It stays sharp, has a good hand feel and is nearly indestructible. It slices, dices and chops better than any other knife I have. I use it more than my Shuns or Wusthofs.

I saw a review that these knives chip easily. I'm bit paranoid about accidentally using these to cut something that isn't complete thawed yet or some veggies that is too hard.

Is that true?

MAC are incredible value workhorse knives. They hold up pretty nicely against the hobbyist $250+ segment and are pretty much unbeatable for the price.

Macknife is my favorite brand of knife. It holds its edge quite a long time because it's made of hardened steel alloy. I've used the MTH 80 for over 10 years. No chips in the blade.
