I picked up one of these in Spring last year for file Back-up and Plex.

I don't have any 4k content as most of the content on Plex server is home videos or 1080 and lower. However I can confirm it can stream to multiple devices at once no issue and it does support hardware transcoding with PlexPass (I had to download the latest version of Plex from Plex at the time, it wasn't available directly in the Package Center)

For those new to NAS, I found the basic setup very easy but it does support more advanced configurations if you would like. For background I do work on this type of technology on a daily basis

Synology has some nice apps available to back-up and sync your devices. I won't claim they are the best or fastest apps in the world, but they do their job. I was able to setup our cell phones to automatically back-up any pictures/video to the NAS when we are at home. I have the folders we back-up too automatically indexed into Plex on the NAS. This way as soon we can get home and our phones back-up, the kids can pull-up Plex on a Roku (or tablet) and watch of any their home videos . It works out pretty great and occupies the kids for hours! Since you can setup many users and account permissions, I was able to setup each device (user) with 'write' permissions to it's own folder but only 'read' permissions to others. This assures if a device gets compromised or somebody messes with the configuration, it should limit the 'damage' to just their content. Additionally, even the Plex server only has 'read access' to the home videos.

I did add 4GB of RAM to the server (non-synology brand) but it was probably not even necessary needed given my fairly light usage of the server.

I bought this last year during black Friday for my Plex server and I have not regretted it. I am light-medium user and have not had any issues.

Was really hoping to go with a 920+ but now I'm worried that won't go on sale at all on Amazon. Might get this instead.

I have the 220+ and run a few docker containers: bitwarden, jellyfin (don't use it much though), pihole, and code server. Memory wise would go to about half using all of this with the original RAM. So, I installed a bigger RAM and it's running fine since.

Missed out on the B&H and newegg deal for the 920+ as well but I ordered this just in case another deal doesn't pop up. There are a few Amazon warehouse units for sale for $10 and $20 less depending on condition.
