Bought 2 of these years ago and have had them running every night attached to a smart plug (since they remember the power/noise/volume settings). No looping in the audio since it's an analog sound machine and the price is about what I paid on sale 4 years ago. Good deal if you need them!
These generate the sound themselves instead of playing back an audio track. I have a sound app on my phone, but I can tell when it loops when I'm falling asleep.

Having a dedicated sound machine is fantastic! I have one of these and I love it. I used to turn on a loud fan that I had, but it used a lot of electricity so we switched to this and I love it. I even bring it on trips.

You can use your phone and when I'm in a pinch I do too, but this one actually fills the room with the sound rather than just playing it in a direction like the phone speakers do where one side of the bed will be louder. I definitely just found one setting that I like and leave it on that all the time, but the options are pretty good.

If you're already running a bed time fan app or something every night, I'd highly recommend getting one, but if you don't have any other sounds you usually use, this is pretty much useless to start using randomly.

I think I'm going to grab another of these. These have replaced my sister's marpac dohms and saved my sanity when I had a noisy neighbor living below me.

Lots of people in this thread are suggesting alternatives or not understanding the use/point of this thing. It's a very effective noise masking speaker that can be left on as long as you need without needing to reset the audio track or hook up a phone to a speaker. It just works, and works well. We've tried using a nest mini to replace it but it doesn't stack up in terms of volume and sound quality. Plus if we use a phone to play the sounds or control a speaker, then that person has to find the right track and even then the phone or nest mini will occasionally do something weird or change tracks after some time.

The only negative I have is out of 20 sounds we really only like one of them, but that's all we need so it's not really an issue.

A cheap room air purifier may also do the trick while cleaning the air.

Why not just use echo dot

Amazon changed how the tracks play recently. It used to loop the same album, but now it makes a playlist and adds in different albums.

We have a Marpac Sleep Mate (made in the US!) we inherited from my Dad. Still going strong after 25 years.

+1 to these LectroFans. The sound is clear, loud, and multiple different options for white noise/fan sounds, etc. Been using one every night for a few years now and have even brought it with me traveling.

FOR IPHONE USERS:
If you don't need a white noise machine quite as loud, I'd recommend using the iPhone's built-in "Background Sounds" option.

Settings -> Control Center -> Add "Hearing"
  • From your iPhone's home screen, swipe down from the top right of screen to access control center
  • Select the Hearing app (looks like an image of an ear)
  • Select background sounds
  • Choose your preferred sound and Volume (my favorites are Dark Noise and Ocean)
  • To turn off, open the control center again, select the ear icon and tap the button at the bottom of the screen

This is a legacy product that is decades old. They have much better machines with more sounds and even lighting for $20 or less on Amazon.

Entirely different product line. This is a white noise machine, not a sound machine. I'm sure their sound machine line is quality as well.

I've had this version since 2017 and have used it damn near every night since this, it works just as it did. We picked up a micro version for easier traveling. I'll probably pick up a second to put in the spare bedroom.

We got two of these a few years ago. They're ok but if I could do it over, I'd buy a Dohm for around the same price. Having heard both, the Dohm sounds more like a "real" fan or something similar, and the Lectrofan sounds more like speakers making a fan noise. No looping in either, as others have said. I don't hate the product by any means, just think there's a better option.

I can say that we've had two of these for years without issues. They are expensive, but worth it IMO if you have light sleepers (we use it for our kids).

These comments…they exist and have existed for a reason. They are the solution, not a pointless alternative.

You can select the fan noise or white noise that will fit you and your scenario best. They get really soft and really loud. They don't loop audio files, they generate the sound continuously. They are low power and cheap (I've had mine 9 years now and I got it for $40 back then).

These are great, have two. Very nice price. Anybody who asks "Why not use X instead?" hasn't tried one of these or isn't very sensitive to repetitive sounds.
Yeah. These threads used to be filled with those type of posts. Seems like there are more converts that understand why these are so amazing now.

Best white noise device I've ever used. I already have one backup sitting in a closet or else I'd buy another. Fan noise #8 is the best white noise I've ever heard. I love these things. Way better than a box fan that uses 100 watts of power.

Been running this classic model for 5 years no issues, and also have the newer more rounded version. These devices are nice because they produce good low range sound without looping and the user should be able to find a sound they like.

I specifically do not want to screw around with a phone, bluetooth connection or stuff like that before sleeping. Instead with this dedicated Lectrofan unit, I simply hit the run button and that's it. No messing around with connections, power, finding my phone, etc. The device is always there on my dresser ready to work at touch of a button.

One thing I don't care for about this classic version are the sharp edges, mostly for travel. So I got the dedicated travel container to house it when on the go.
