So.. this is a decent deal price wise. Keep in mind that airfare to iceland is usually very cheap in off months. I'm seeing dates as low as $414 from Chicago. Lets say you book that flight. Now you have about $400 to allocate towards 3 days of activities (housing, tour, etc). If you travel as a couple, this becomes $800.

Housing in and around Iceland can be had for like $150 a night on airbnb. I actually would suggest NOT staying in Reykjavik and instead going south towards the black sand beaches and posting up camp there. As for activities, all of the above are free or almost free if you just rent a car and drive yourself. I suggest the following for a short trip:

- Secret Lagoon. Dont bother with the Blue Lagoon.
- Golden Circle
- Reykjadalur Valley Hike to natural hotsprings
- Black Sand Beaches near Vik

Personally, I would not purchase this option, especially if traveling with a partner. The roads in Iceland are fantastic, especially to the main sights and car rentals in off season are affordable. You do not need a 4x4 in winter if driving to the main locations (golden circle, ring road). Happy to answer any questions.
Counter point here: I went a few years ago over Xmas and NY, the weather was very unpredictable and turns harsh in moments notice. There are days where it started off sunny and pleasant and turned into snow storm with zero visibility within 30 mins. We saw plenty of cars driven off the side of the road in the ditches from the snow/ice; if you dont have any experience driving in the snow it can get scary with the conditions.

I would say 3 days is kinda short for Iceland, there are so many awesome sights to see, if you are making the trip already I'd want to stay at least 5-7 days.
I lived there for 5yrs and yes you will want a 7-14 days.its Spectacular

spent 1.5 years in Iceland in the early 90s while in the US Navy. Had an absolute blast.
We took a lot of trips and never needed a 4x4 when the roads had been plowed. We needed chains a few times, but w/the amount of snow and wind they get, even 4x4s couldn't pass some of the roads.
It is a stunningly beautiful place, but aside from the possibility of seeing the northern lights, winter isn't the ideal time to visit. I guess that is why the deal is considered off-season.
The waterfalls will be beautiful, but they are so much more spectacular in the summer when the sun is out.
No guarantee that the sun will be out in the summer as their weather is often "WET", but it is absolutely breathtaking if you are there at Gullfos (probably spelled wrong) on a sunny day with the mist making rainbows.
Unsure why I couldn't add pix to my original post, but here are a couple of old pix from Gulfos:

what is a good town to stay if going with kids.
this deal doesn't let me book with kids. If i go on my own and try to visit all these touristic points, what would you recommend.

We stayed at Reykjavík and Vik for our 7 day trip. Both were fine. But besides Reykjavík all the other towns are tiny for the most part with very little to do or see, so just plan on staying in the hotel overnight and then drive out to see the sights.

we are taking 9 year old and 8 months old baby with this package in next Feb 2023. What should we prepare or did I just make a big mistake of taking an infant to Iceland? We are staying 7 days also.

You should be fine. There are a lot of infants who live full-time in Iceland.

Appreciate the info. It's on my bucket list. Are there any shoulder months you would suggest for DIY? Want to avoid winter but can't quite afford peak travel times.

Seems like a cool deal. Any reason why I shouldn't go to anyone who has seen a package/offer similar to this? It says it's hot during winter. Is that because of the locations or should I pack with heavy jackets still
Pack as though you are going to the North Pole if the weather calls for snow/ice. Note the wind whips across the landscape at breakneck speed because there is nothing to slow it down when storms do pop up. Rental car companies warn you to park facing into the wind for this reason (doors get ripped off the hinges).

I've been to Iceland now 7 times, twice in the winter months. The weather is extremely variable and 3 days with 3 excursions is optimistic that you'll complete them all. I've had blizzard-like conditions cancel multiple excursions in the winter. I would always suggest a Northern Lights excursion at the beginning and have days to do second or even third chance outings. This package lumps everything together and you could have a couple of bad weather days and not go out at all. There are fun things to do in Reykjavík if the tours get canceled, especially if it is your first time. However, one day had the city shut down - you could not go outside at all. This was mid-March 2013 and an interesting day in the hotel - at least my group had 6 days vs 3 and our Northern Lights excursion was cancelled twice and happened on the last night. We got lucky and had a wonderful aurora display.

Going out on your own can be very tricky as well. I've gone from blue skies, mid-30's outside, and no precipitation in the forecast to white-out conditions leaving my group crawling at 10-20 MPH and happy to see the yellow spikes showing the edges of the road. It could be completely clear, too. That's the thing - you never know. AWD/4WD will not help you stop if the roads get slick or if you can't see more than a few feet in front of you. Use road.is and en.vedur.is if you do go out on your own and know the road conditions and near-term weather. The Golden Circle is much more realistic to do on your own versus going out to see the Northern Lights in the middle of nowhere with no cell service or other humans around if you have any issues.

I completely suggest using the TripAdvisor forums, especially for Iceland, if you have questions. They have a lot of people who genuinely help others and give valid advice and experience.

January has more cloudy days than any other month. If it's fully overcast like it is about 3/4 of the time in Jan, you're not going to see the Northern Lights through them Frown. The days are also very short to do other things like the Golden Circle, South Iceland, or Snæfellsnes. I've been in December and had only about 4-4.5 hrs of daylight when it was clear. I did see the lights in a SuperJeep tour, although we didn't see them until about 9 PM when it was dark around 3 PM. I would not have that as your only reason to go, or you might be sorely disappointed. The city was decorated for the holidays - got to know a lot about Jólakötturinn and other traditions which was something I appreciated.

In mid-March, we had about the same amount of daylight as darkness. That gave us opportunities to have longer days to see and do things. Then, too, we saw the lights on an organized South Iceland tour. We did not see the lights until around 10 PM at Seljalandsfoss. The tour bus also stopped at a pasture on the way back to Reykjavík when it was obviously doing a wonderful display and we all agreed to stop. We had worse weather in March vs December, so you really never can predict that. The tour was supposed to be the second night there but was cancelled twice before we had that one very good day to see things at the end. Had it been cancelled again, we would have received a refund. That's something this Icelandair deal doesn't seem to offer.

If I had to choose, I would do March over December - as well as over Jan and Feb. I've also been in early-September, but it doesn't get dark soon enough to really see the lights unless you're very lucky and well outside of Reykjavík's lights. Again, the weather in Iceland is unpredictable and could be uncooperative any time of year.

Wife and I went last thanksgiving. We had a great time. 3.5-4 hrs of "daylight" kinda makes it hard to sightsee but we still had fun. Northern lights tour got cancelled due to weather and after fighting with Icelandair for refunds we gave up and made the best of it. Worse part of the trip was the flight home. We had a direct from Rej to Orl and they cancelled our flight with no warning. After spending some time on the phone with Icelandair, the best they could do was a flight to Seattle with a 5 hr layover then a flight to Orlando. 17 hrs In the air sucked and wasnt too happy about that but we want to go back in the summer to have tons of daylight to explore.

Is this trip refundable? I don't want to book anything in advance without being able to get my money back in my payment form.

I keep adding dates, and it keeps telling me no hotel available. It sounds like a decent deal if you can get it to work with your timeline.
