If you already have the iPad, get the pencil. I have many students who did that, not just for school, but for their artwork, and nothing but compliments. Julia Gisella is a YT personality who does hyper realistic art work using her iPad, so you know it's legit

I have an intuos p+t (from 2013) that can do similar tasks and has similar sensitivity, but not having your stylus hover over the screen inevitably means you interact differently with your work. Most will prefer seeing a screen under their hand. I ended up getting a Huion kamvas 13 (that I haaaaaaaaaate and don't recommend) to even the field. Still use my Intuos as a fallback.

An Intuos is very very good for non artistic tasks (remote learning/tutoring, signing documents, assistive input if you have occupational injuries, etc ). The size and age of Wacom alone means that you'll have good software/driver support too.

And yes it is usable for photo editing. Not the most modern way, but totally usable.
I purchased a similar Wacom model last week, which said Chromebook-compatible in its listing, but had mixed reviews on this matter. I'm a pretty technical user, but when I plugged it into my kid's Chromebook, it just wouldn't work. There isn't a driver available for Chromebook. It's just supposed to work with 4.4 (iirc) or higher. That's well below the current version of ChromeOS.

After rebooting, connecting, disconnecting, putting the Chromebook on beta channel and then back to stable... rinse and repeat several times over 20 minutes, nothing worked! I was ready to return the thing.

Just for kicks, before returning it, I thought I'd try it on a Win10 laptop sitting on my desk. It auto-installed a driver and worked great. I plugged it back into the Chromebook and unbelievably... it started working! No driver, rain dance, or other activity required! YMMV.

All I could think of was that it shipped in some state that, on first connection, might be seeking a firmware update or other first-run activity that doesn't reliably complete on Chromebook. Purchased a second unit and had the exact same experience.

TL/DR; connect to a Windows machine and let it fully install before using on a Chromebook (just the first time, when it's brand new). I couldn't find this tip anywhere on Wacom's site, but it worked twice for me. Hope it works for you.
Thanks. Just want it to be used. Ya know, unlike the box of Barbies in my basement.

Is there an iPad app that allows you to write on a Promeathean board/smart board while walking around the room? Thanks!

What size is it, if size you now think is ideal based on your experience, I only want to use it occasionally for presentations when I have to explain something by writing in Teams meetings.
I suggest getting the medium size. it is more versatile.

Lot of confusion on here.

Difference between this Wacom and iPad with Apple pencil:

iPad: You draw directly on the screen.

Wacom: With this particular Wacom you draw on tablet while looking at computer screen. May take some getting used to.

Wacom does make devices that you draw directly on the screen but for considerable more money.

Since I have both Wacom and iPads for first a second gen Apple pencils, I find it much easier to to draw direct on screen. I'm just not good with Wacom stylus positioning on screen. YMMV

This video describes the different types of Wacoms including the type in this thread.

Incidentally, Samsung licensed Wacom tech for Galaxy Note S Pen.

in the Q&A it says does not work with chromebook (watcom response) but the title says chromebook, android, etc...?

so does it or does it not work on chromebooks and android devices?
it sounds like it only does not work on ipad/iphones?

This is fine for photo editing or presentations or whatever. For drawing I don't understand the interest. Yesterday I posted a (now expired) deal for an Intuos Pro medium for $240 and no one cared (not that I mind, I just thought that people wouldn't be into drawing here). For art I'd either buy that (Wacom sells refurbished ones for $170 I think) or buy a way cheaper Huion/Xp-Pen. Their models work basically just as well as Wacom but for a fraction of the price. If you want a drawing tablet in this price range for drawing/sculpting that's the usual recommendation.

Oh and this is a drawing tablet which means it doesn't have a screen. It's a slab that you draw on but you see the results on a separate screen (laptop/monitor).

A drawing display on the other hand looks like an iPad or an Android tablet but it needs to be connected to a computer. It's like an external monitor that you can draw on. Drawing on one of those is more natural, you're looking at the screen where your hand is but ergonomically it's better to use a drawing tablet and look at the monitor. The cheapest Wacom model is the Wacom one which has a 13" screen and costs around $250.

One other quick note - even if you plan to use the Small tablet wired, it may be worth getting the Bluetooth one. I believe the USB charging cable can also be used to use it wired.. but it seems the Wireless version has the new 4k pen (4000 levels of sensitivity) while the wired version has the 2k pen (2000 levels of sensitivity)

For a $10 difference, it would definitely help with drawing/art work, even if it isn't noticeable on photo editing.

my 11 year old daughter is wanting to get into this. if we go the Ipad route, does she need the Ipad Air or will any old Ipad work with the Apple pencil for drawing?

and what about something like this Huion Kamvas Pro?

https://www.amazon.com/HUION-KAMV...B07S7BCTWW

i want to support her artistic ambitions but i have a basement full of pottery wheels, easels, etc...so I don't want to spend a fortune on something that she might get bored with...

(not free) Clip studio paint pro is my favorite. If they really end up liking it I recommend upgrading them to that at some point because apps like paint don't take full advantage of what the Wacom can do.

It's 50 for the one time purchase, but they do face subscription models instead. The license usually goes on sale twice a year. I got mine for 20 bucks on bf one year
Awesome and thanks!

Also not free, about $32, but humble bundle is also having a sale on their Painter Bundle. I am not too sure it works with this Wacom. My daughter uses Corel Paint with a very large Wacom tablets, that she purchased from Wacom, and my wife is using an older version with a Lenovo computer that flips and the screen has a pen you can use. The bundle has extra brushes, Paint Shop Pro, and some video editing software. They also use Paint Shop Pro to edit pictures. It is somewhere in Slickdeals, where I found it and purchased it, and also here:

This would be used in the same way you use cricuit design studio on an iPad or android tablet. You use the pen as a mouse and move your objects around. Think of it as an apple pencil or S pen on a tablet but there is no screen and you use it the same way you navigate a mouse on a computer screen. I have a One by Wacom as for awhile that was the only one that would work on a Chromebook. It's great. Fantastic for doing worksheets that you would normally need to print out and scan back in. But an iPad and apple pencil or Samsung and S pen would do the same. Except this will last practically for decades as long as you can get replacement nibs, where as iPad or any other tablet will only last 6-8 years.
Perfect! Thanks you!

If you can do it with a mouse, yes. This is just a really fancy mouse. You can even use it as a mouse within windows. Use this to draw your design into whatever program you use to make Cricut designs, then send it to your Cricut to be cut.
