Just know that these Amplifiers go out just after warranty and then you are left with nothing. I would avoid these power amp speaker from Def Tech. There is a reason why they are so cheap now.

What component in the amp fails? Capacitors? If you can solder, it's an easy fix.
Unfortunately subwoofer plate amps are where most manufacturers cheap out. Their failure is very common.

Yeah, but most people have no interest in replacing these part themselves. They rather have something that they can buy and will last 10 years or more.

I get it. Having something break after the warranty expires sucks, but subwoofer plate amp failures are very common. My point is that if it fails after warranty, you're not really left with "nothing". You have options. Have someone repair the amp (you can often just look at circuit boards and see failed parts like swollen caps/burned parts) or replace it entirely with a $150 plate amp from parts express. Or forego the built in subs entirely and buy one or two external subs and use the DT's as high-passed main speakers.

If you look at the AVS Forums they don't recommend these because of the amps in these are prone to going bad. They don't like amps in speak for the most part anyhow besides subs. They want people to know these are powered woofers and not powered sub-woofers so if you really want the lowest sound buy a subwoofer. I have never had an issue with my Klipsch powered subwoofers blowing out so I do think Definitive Technogy is not putting quality stuff into these. I'm trying to get either a SVS or Monolith powered subwoofer now for even deeper bass than the Klipsch I have.

You must be lucky. Klipsch powered subs have a bad reputation for the amps dying. That always comes up in Klipsch sub threads here.
Anyway, if anyone has these speakers and the sub's amp dies and they think the speaker is now worthless, I'll be more than happy to take them off their hands ππΌππΌ
Amps in all of these powered speakers from def tech eventually fail. Google it and you'll know. Every single one of these from any series (7xxx, 8 or even these newer 9s) on sale on craigslist or FB marketplace have either failed sub plates or a very audible hum. You can find other speakers for the same price from other manufacturers and then simple add a good quality sub for the same price or and better sound.
After a few years of Definitive Technology.... Don't Do It!!!!. Spend the money and go Bowers & Wilkins. I have a 5.1.2 system (Def Tech) and it honestly has been very short of what I expected. The quality is amazing in the beginning, but not there down the road. Really disappointed and when I am on my last leg I know where to go. Constantly trying to EQ them back into range for somewhat decent sound. Bowers is more flawless and worth the long term investment as someone who respects sound quality.
