It means that it will cook it slowly. If something takes about an hour in the oven, It will take about 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low in a slow cooker. People do cook meat in them, just google slow cooker + whatever meat you want to cook. I just googled kidney beans and it says to not cook dry beans in a slow cooker.
This particular slow cooker is less than 6 cups so it would be better used for dips or sides and not very good as a main meal unless you are a single person. Most slow cooker recipes are for a use in a 3 or 4qt slow cooker so you will have to divide the recipe in half.
I just put water, cinnamon sticks, carnations, or just a few drops of essential oils and let it simmer slow. It makes the house smell heavenly, and helps with odors post cooking too!
One to use, one prepped for the next day, one for leftovers for lunch, and one waiting to be washed.

You can absolutely cook dry beans in a slow cooker, but you have to prep them first by boiling them in water for 10 min, let sit for an hour, then strain and put in crockpot. I do it all the time.

You can either do it the 'quicker' way by prepping the beans first in boiling water with a 1 hour soak OR as I usually do, which is soaking the beans in room temp water overnight, then using fresh water for the slow cooking process the following day.
