Hisense is an IPS Panel and this is a VA Panel. If you watch more tv shows and viewing angles is important to you, keep the Hisense. If you watch more movies and care about better blacks and contrast, the TCL will be better

Is this better than the hisense that was also $500 a few weeks ago? I already have the hisense hanging on the wall, not sure if its worth taking off, returning and getting this one. Any thoughts ?

no issues on the viewing angles, i upgraded from a 2011 Sony LCD that was 55". I dont really watch much 4k content, so to me the hisense has been a massive upgrade.
I am a fan of the roku platform, but have my old roku plugged into the hisense and ignoring the google tv functions for now.

Is the TCL really bad? Reddit folks are saying they would rather get a used 3 yr old TV vs getting a TCL 4 series. Does it have really bad picture quality? I know it's cheap and entry level, but hopefully it's not horrible.

They are idiots. I have both 4 and 5 series, I love the 4. The 5 is a little laggy now .
