Doctor here. Probably equally effective as far as active ingredients go, but the coating in these is much easier to swallow and a little softer on the stomach which is the most common side effect with these. If you are taking more than a few at a time or over a period of time (such as when you buy it in bulk like this) it might be worth a few extra dollars. I think it is.

Why would one prefer advil over generic brand that's like $8 for 500? I've found all generic brands work the same as advil for me.

He said "the coating in these is much easier to swallow and a little softer on the stomach" not that the generic brands did not have a coating.

Both can have coatings and his/her comment still be true.

As someone who was recently diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, please don't overuse this or any other nsaid. Nsaids have been linked to a higher risk of IBD.

Also, not good for blood pressure. Don't ignore it folks, unless you want an early grave. Keep checking it periodically.

Only applies to the average person. The brand name ones usually are less harsh when deciding what to offset for other side effects of meds.

About 15 years ago I worked for a contract packager pharma company. I can promise you every big box name brand was made on the same line. Different package, different color. They would make tens of millions of acetaminophen, diphenhydramine and other very common otc that you would find at every big box corner drug store and grocery store.. and just change the tooling for the shape and size.

Few years later I worked at a dairy packager... Butter, yogurt, ice cream, sour cream.. they did all the big box stores and put it in a different package and container.. same machine..

I just took these and then generic (Costco) ibuprofen and noticed they both have a smooth coating and neither one was difficult (or easier) in the least to get down. Nor did either upset my stomach. Just sharing my anecdote as well.
