So is this a self-contained game, like the Battle Academy box?

My son is young (6) and there's this tension between wanting to learn and play the TCG game, and just collecting. The third prong to this world, investment, is not part of the calculus (at least at this time).

We have the Battle Academy box, and it is great for what it is (to learn TCG), but he also wants to just put the cards in his binder and treat them like any other. So it's like we need junk cards on top of what's in that set, as it feels important to keep that set intact.

I see all these Pokemon sales but it's so hard to know what it is what, it feels like a different language. Feels like a big part of the "problem" (if you call it that) is the investing side of things is so enormous it outweighs everything else for most people so when they talk about these deals, that's the main focus. .

Also what makes the Brilliant Stars box better than this one? That seems to be the consensus.

If you want decks to play against each other, get the League Battle decks. These are usually marked with trainer level 3 on them.

If you just want to collect cards for fun, then the Elite trainer boxes are a good value.

Building decks piecemeal can get pretty expensive, so usually it's cheaper to just buy the league battle decks.

Cheers

This is so crazy complicated, Interested for my 6 yr old as well, for 2 - 4 player which one would be good idea? There are so many , shouldn't it be level 1 considering it's beginners?

We used these cards to help my daughter learn basic math and it worked great. Unfortunately these boxes are mostly for getting packs and collecting. If you want to play immediately I'd recommend getting the pre-built decks. They're pretty worthless for collecting or resale but they are perfect for learning the game and getting youngsters interested.

I bought my 8 year old pokemon cards. He tells me Names of what Pokémon characters his friends have, but doesn't know how to play nor does he tell me that his friends plays. I feel like they only show off who has better cards?

I believe that's what most people do yes.

More sought after/better cards and harder to get at this point. BS features Charizard cards.

Astral Radiance has a valuable Machamp card but he isn't as popular and it just isn't the greatest set.

If you want to learn the game and play with your kid, I would get the Battle Academy box. It has 3 decks in it, so you can learn each deck and have different games depending on which deck you choose each game. They are simpler decks and the box has everything you need to learn and play the game. Also, the Online TCG game is free and a great way to learn as well, as it guides you through gameplay and starts you playing against the computer.

Once he masters the 3 included decks, and you're ready for more decks, they sell lots of level 1 decks you can find in stores and online and use those instead.

In the future, you may want League Battle decks, as those are more advanced decks, the Level 2 and 3.
