I don't think so. I ordered 2 of them and one upgraded to the latest software and one said it wasn't available yet. So I don't think I got 2 2022 unit's but I don't think there really is a difference.

In case you already have one and want to update. I just read this on a review. I have 2 plus the sub for surround sound with a firestick max. Going to try this tonight.

"To update your Studio, turn on the mute button (the ring will turn red) and leave it for a while. I left it overnight and the next morning it was at the latest version."

these are honestly pretty decent. it's not hifi gear, but most people don't need that.

they're basically selling these to you at cost, make 0 money, yea it spies on you buh all smart devices do that, you're not getting away from surveillance capitalism.

Honest question-what does the atmos designation mean on something like this. Atmos is directional, spacial sound that couldn't be achieved from a single speaker if I understand it correctly. Can they be linked? Does it simply mean it can play atmos tracks?

Almost pulled trigger and then went with Amazon Echo Show 10 at $185, same day delivery. Echo instant trade in -$46.25 & $30 GC for a 2nd Gen Echo. Coming from Show 8 & what a game changer the motion response utility presents in kitchen, excellent sound quality too. You can use it as an indoor security camera. Hand's down best alexa money spent.

Thank you. I had seen an instant credit option before on a previous trade in, thought I missed it as an option. Guess I'm not eligible this time around. Bummer.

Edit: Just tried the Mrs. account and she was eligible for instant credit Smilie

Yes, spatial audio only works with Amazon Music Unlimited HD, none of the other popular services like Spotify, Tidal, etc.

Also, Dolby Atmos only works if you're streaming from a Fire TV stick 4K or Cube, and has to be from a native app downloaded to the Fire TV device like Vudu, Movies Anywhere, Amazon Prime Video.

Also, to those asking above, there are slight differences between the 2019 model of the speaker and the new 2022 release.

And it sounds like some of those optimizations are on a hardware level and not just software. One of my complaints with my 2019 Studio is the bass overpowers vocals and dialogue in movies. I set the bass to -1 and the mids to +1 in the EQ and enabled the clear dialogue option to try and improve things a little.

So it sounds like Amazon is aware of those shortcomings and has attempted to remedy them.
