This is not an ultrasonic type cleaner and uses a filter, so all that white dust is absorbed in the filter.
The downside is that you have a filter that should be replaced. So over time, it will cost more money, but it will be cleaner than if you were using the typical ultrasonic type humidifier.

Overall I hated the process of cleaning the filter inside which will get fungus every few weeks. Need 2 filters every winter so that's a $20/year cost in addition to the messy clean-ups. Yes there is a big hole to clean but why to clean the filter always.
Now I have a $20 Homech from Walmart and never looking back. Love it
I wanted to buy another one but Honeywell stopped selling them for a while (and third party sellers increased the prices 2-3x since they were scarce). My one complaint is that i wish the tank was bigger because I feel like it lasts less than a day.
