It's probably the most used size by car mechanics.

The metric set goes up to 13mm, that covers 95% of interior work.

You obviously don't work on stuff very often. Been wrenching for a long time and the 1/4" ratchet probably has the most use of them all. That goes for automotive work, and electrical/engineering stuff, not counting all the personal stuff too.

Agreed. 1/4 drive maybe I use occasionally under dash or when space is an issue. Otherwise it's nearly always 3/8 or even more so 1/2. I'm a hobbyist working on cars for years, and in particular for older cars, 1/4 typically doesn't cut it for much, due to lack of leverage on fasteners.

Motorcycles, car interior/body pieces, etc. I've even use them occasionally when I really should have a 3/8 if they are near by, and I've yet to break a tool/socket. If you are just buying one set of sockets, go 3/8, but if you already have a set, $13 is a solid investment in your sanity for small work.

I use 3/8 mainly for engine work. 1/4 if space is cramp.

Aircraft Mechanics too...but SAE sizes of course. Anyplace where space is limited and torque is low, 1/4 inch is great.
