Not bad knives, but the $700+ price is just bait. In reality these sold around $300.

So still a good deal but not amazing. Most people don't take care of or really appreciate good kitchen knives, but a good rule of thumb is, if the company won't tell you what the steel is (VG10, ATS34 etc. etc.) they are using at best just okay steel. Better than a set of $50 knives......sure, but if you see "special stainless steel formula" etc. it's not great steel.

Most folks really only need 2-3 knives, the mistake many make is buying into big sets and only using half of them. You can look at something like a Tojiro DP series that's VG10 steel, spend a bit more and have blades that will perform better.

Amazon original price $299.99 is much more reasonable than $734.50?

I've had the set for years after seeing them on clearance somewhere. Quality is there, but the prep knife and serrated utility knife are filler, at least for my uses. I never really bonded with the chef knife, either. I'm sure it's the perfect set for somebody, but at this price I personally would just look for a couple knives you absolutely love.
This person knows. I do use the serrated utility on tomatoes when my knives need sharpening. I do 95% of knife work with a 7" santoku. You really only need a paring knife and large chef's for big veggies and fruits in addition inmho unless you debone fish.

Same deal on Amazon if anyonewas wondering

ZWILLING J.A. Henckels Four Star Anniversary 8-pc Knife Block Set https://a.co/d/6Ko03Ai
Thanks, I saw that. I just spent hours shopping for knives on black friday and purchased an 8 piece twin signature set for $179, and this set was $250. I could not find it cheaper anywhere. As soon as one or two retailers dropped the price, others did as well. It is crazy how quickly they adjust prices to match each other.

Buy quality knives you need and like. Also note that these have full bolster. Some people like it some do not.

I've also been looking at replacing all my knives. I just bought the Mercer Culinary Renaissance 6-piece set (incl block) as a Christmas gift for $110 on black friday. The Mercer knives get fantastic reviews so I'm eager to see how well they do. They use the same steel as Wustof knives and supply the majority of culinary schools with their knives. The Mercer set is $165 on amazon.

Btw I think I paid around $100 for my set over a decade ago when I had a 50% off promo
I think it was about 8 years ago, I bought this same set at Bed Bath and Beyond Black Friday sale at $150 - 20% = $120. I used a gift card redeemed from my Discover cash back with another 20% saving so it was $96+tax out of pocket. As another member mentioned, I never used the prep knife and serrated utility knife for several months. And I sold both unused knives brand new.

Thanks, I saw this one, but had an old sur la table gift card that I used. I agree that this one is a bigger block (and arguably nicer color) and gets free towels.

For people looking for individual knives, I posted this thread before Thanksgiving but did not get any traction: https://slickdeals.net/f/16226854-cutleryandmore-com-has-zwilling-j-a-henckels-pro-7-rocking-santoku-knife-70-yaxell-mon-8-chef-s-knife-70-zwilling-j-a-henckels-pro-8-smart-ridge-chef-s-knife-80?v=1

I just checked the price. Price seems to be still valid. One of the examples is 8" Zwilling J.A. Henckels Pro chefs knife for $80. Pro is one step up from Four Star and also half bolster.

I purchased a set of four star, it however came with a 5" santoku which I use far more than the chef knife.

Four star is their entry German steel product with a full tang, a must for me. The four star feels imbalanced compared to other knives I've owned/used. They are also thinner blades than like the classic and victorinox I've owned, and the four star 3"pairing lost about 3mm of its tip.

Thanks! I saw your post, and think it is a great deal. I was just looking for a set as a gift. I wish I could get the pro set for the same price as they look like a bit of an upgrade (balance/handle).

Thanks, I have read some people like the four star handles and others do not. I originally purchased a twin signature set, which is a step down (stamped not forged), but the handles look potentially better than the four star handles. What is the "Classic" you mentioned? I looked for victornox, but could not find a good sale on them.

This is a very good, but not insanely good, price on some excellent knives. These are the same steel as the Zwilling Pro S, but with different, softer handles. They are the top of the line, German made, Zwilling / Henckels, and are comparable to the Wusthof Classics (but with a slightly softer steel, in my experience--which makes them need sharpening a little more often, but then that sharpening is a little easier). These are my go-to knives, and I have dozens of high end knives in my kitchen. I love the comfy handles on these, they are well balanced, and they perform great.

It is true that most people would be better off just buying 2 or 3 knives that are exactly the right ones for you, but if you want a set on your counter, or aren't sure what knives you need, you can't go wrong with this set. They will serve you great for the rest of your life if you take care of them (don't leave them sitting in water, don't wash in the dishwasher, and spend 5 minutes on youtube learning to sharpen and to hone, which are different things.)

This is really great feedback, and a great summary of what I have read. Thanks for writing as it makes me feel a little better about purchasing them. I realize it is not a screaming deal, but as you note, it is a really good deal on what I understand are high quality knives. I need to learn to sharpen and hone.
