Key Features:- Dimensions: 43" x 10.5" x 19"
- Redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to minimize distortion and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible.
- A Linear Travel Suspension maximizes dynamics for enhanced, detailed performance. LTS Tweeters have been a hallmark of previous Reference lines, as well as their flagship Klipsch Palladium series, making it a core component of some of the best speakers in the world.
- Spun Copper Cerametallic Woofers represent the pinnacle of Klipsch driver design, maintaining exceptional rigidity and lightweight construction, for minimal cone breakup and distortion. When paired with the Tractrix Horn-loaded LTS tweeter, it provides speaker efficiency highest in its class.
- Utilizing Tractrix geometry, the Reference Premiere ports allows for the most efficient, fastest air transfer from the cabinet - for the cleanest, most powerful low frequency response on the market.
- MDF Cabinet With Real Wood Veneer Finish
- Strong, Flexible, Removable Grille attaches magnetically for an elegant transition from powerful showstopper to discrete performance piece.

This is going to be a fun journey for you. Good luck!
It is an older model but honestly the nex gen, the RP-8000fa was a slight technical downgrade(depending your view)(though still more than decent - see the Audioholics view of the non atmos version https://www.audioholics
The brand new model(Rp-8060faII $3k a pair) is indeed an upgrade over this RP-280FA but costs a bundle more and the real wood veneer on these will be an asset to many folks around.
Here is an old review of the RP-280FA by Brent Butterworth who is a measurement forward reviewer, now contributes often to the Wirecutter and is IMHO pretty trust worthy historically.

These built in modules are hit and miss on performance.
Once you build a good 5.1 you can always add the SA's later which are more versatile.
Using them as height Atmos are better option than as modules IMO

The version 1, regular 8060FA is not really any sort of upgrade. It has slightly different tweeter but reuses the crossover from the 280FA which was designed for the speaker to be at a slant as the 280FA was on a slanted base. This throws the design off a bit. The cabinet of the 280FA is larger and tuned differently as well. Not a big deal but it makes me think(not know for sure) the 280FA would actually measure better and be more useful in a large space. (while the new version might work better in a medium space, bass frequency wise due to how they are tuned)

Having heard both(more than I care for) your impression is why for me the 8000's are a better choice, they are less bright with a smoother sound.

When I first got them I was living in a small apartment and now I am in a bigger home. They still do sound very well but I've always found them a little underwhelming for music and even more so now in a larger living room. However, for movies, along with two 10" Klipsch subwoofers, 404C center, 2 rears and 2 overhead back Atmos speakers, they hold their own. Anyone thinks upgrading to these 280FA is worth it, especially at this price? I know for looks it will be an upgrade as I was thinking before I even saw these that the R-26Fs were looking a little lost against our new 85" TV, but I don't want to upgrade for looks alone, sound is way more important to me.

There are still one of the brightest sound, the difference is minor.
I would say the difference is greater going from Reference to Reference Premier in that aspect.
I would say if you like the bright & lively sound of your Premier's I would say stick to them, you will be downgrading going to these based on your opinion.
Another plus is they are less expensive also.
Regarding the color concern - I bought the 280FA from Adorama a few years back when the Cherry wood ones were on sale for $900 and considered it a steal! It took a couple of hours on a weekend to transform these into a set of black speakers to match the remaining ones. The Vivid black wood grain vinyl is what I used as it was the closest in grain pattern compared to the other klipsch speakers I had. https://a.co/d/3bwGL9w. I am glad I applied these as the speakers ended up looking great in black.
