Pretty sure my ceiling is mostly drywall
You should have studs every 16"-24" on center.

The drywall has to screw to something so there should be some wood up there 2x4 2x6

If one drills holes into a popcorn ceiling to mount this bracket one should be properly protected from asbestos, no?

If you get a magnet or buy a stud finder you'll see where you have wood on the ceiling to attach this to

If your house is older than ~1990 I would say yes but it's not too much of a concern. If it's like 1985 and older I would be more cautious. Still for a few small holes sure why not wear a mask there just to be cautious.

LOL at some of these comments. Yes your ceiling is drywall. That drywall is screwed into wood joists usually every 16 or 24 inches on center. Just like a wall. If you need to install in a spot that falls between joists you might be able to use hollow wall anchors like toggle bolts if you're mounting a small lightweight TV. A big heavy set needs to go into wood, either a joist or add wood blocking between the studs which would require more work.

To be fair, he's not wrong though. From a surface are perspective at least it is mostly drywall up there. Most people don't have a ceiling made entirely of wood in any room larger than a walk in closet.
Let's talk about the surface area perspective of your walls...

I definitely would not mount this into just the drywall no matter how light the TV is. All the weight from this mount and the TV will have constant pull on that drywall. Just not a good idea. Any TV mount whether it's a wall or ceiling mount should be properly secured into wood studs.

Even in the rare case where one has a wooden ceiling, the base still needs to be attached to ceiling joists. If you screw this to a wood ceiling (where there isn't a ceiling joist), you will get the same results as screwing it to a drywall ceiling.

I'd recommend to anyone considering buying this to actually locate their ceiling joists first. In certain instances a satisfactory location might not be found.

What if you dissipate that weight with.. A large piece of drywall LOL. Like a washer made of drywall.
