Lots of negative reviews seem to come from people not using this item properly, this review explains.

"First and foremost I would like to debunk other reviews. This is in fact a grater and slicer. You merely have to remove an reverse the cutting surface piece."

$5 shipped seems like a great deal.

Interesting but the manufacturer even seems to oppose that view in its replies "The hand guard is for the sharp slicing blade only, it is not designed for the grating blade" and other reviews say you can't take it apart so not sure how you would remove and reverse the cutting surface.

Thanks for comments. I agree the reviews look lousy - which surprises me for a Joseph Joseph product - but it gets better reviews at some other retailers (like Amazon). I think it might be worth gambling at < $5 with free shipping.

I'm involved in a White Elephant gift exchange and I'm bringing one of those $10 Yankee Candle large jar candles. This grater might work well for that purpose, too. laugh out loud

Love the Joseph Joseph pepper grinder I got years ago. It's just like the Oxo brand ones but works better for a quick coarse grind. The rivet holding the handle on snapped so I mcgyvered it with a piece of heavy duty metal coat hanger and it still works great 10 years later. Mixed feelings on the quality of this brand.

Reviews look awful but worth a gamble for a name brand kitchen gadget shipped to your door for five bucks. Also picked up the Joseph Joseph adjustable rolling pin for 10 bucks. It's selling for double at Amazon.

Looks like a PITA to clean after use. But in for one. If I don't like it. It will go in the "one time use" top shelf cabinet. Smilie
