You like the Twinkly smart lights for Christmas trees, but $150 with a deal for the 400 LED variant is too expensive?
Then this 520 LED Koopower offer could give you or your kids pretty much the same smart Christmas tree lights to play with, for 1/3rd of the price.

With the 70% off code "KOOUS" that's shown in the banner on top of the store, the price is $48.90 for the RGB LEDs, a Christmas star topper the controller and the power supply or $60 for the same set with the 5'11" tall tree. Shipping is free.
The next best price for the Koopower set is $119.99 on Amazon.

This is not just a simple LED light string, but a smart, App controlled (via Bluetooth) LED display which you can install on your Christmas tree.
Each of the LEDs is individually addressable. This means the color of each RGB LED can be controlled. This way you can show simple graphics or play animations on your tree. Or just set it to a single color when a somewhat calmer atmosphere is appropriate.
I guess the pictures or YouTube reviews explain it best.

Intriguing for the price. But a few caveats that are stopping me
1. It looks like they are vertical strings, so you really have to have them on a very particular way for it to look good, likely on outer edge of the tree. all the product photos look very grid-like. probably works best on uniform fake tree
2. These products are only as good as their apps :/ so tbd on longevity of support.
I'm still tempted

Yeah, that's true but I wondered if they might just use common RGB IC LEDs, something like APA102, SK9822A or WS2812B. In this case the controller could be replaced with an ESP32 or a RPi. I will check it once they arrive.

The App is probably ok for most common users, but I only know it from watching this YouTube [youtube.com] video so far.

It's not waterproof from what I've read. So I would only use it outside if it's covered from rain or snow.

On the one hand, the vertical strings limit the way you can use them. On the other hand, it lets them do patterns that wouldn't be possible otherwise (the bear, or the sun, for instance). I'm not quite sure that all those patterns are successful -- I can't see the bear in their example image -- but it at least lets you attempt things that would be difficult/impossible with one continuous string.

The tree is janky, but I get why they have it -- this way, if you get the tree, you have a guaranteed way of matching their expected size/shape.

A bit torn. I have a (fake) tree that's about the right size that this would work for (that is already decorated for this year). Can't really use it outside. Whatever else I did use it would have to be circular/radial.

Company seems decent, with lots of other products and good, non-fake reviews.

Aaah, in for one.

That's a start, twinkly reminds me of another company that had a niche product and costs way too much as they thought they are the only competition. Lo and behold, Apple
AirTags came along and made that company (TILE) kinda obsolete or less relevant. I guess twinkly is heading that way, this thing though not refined and limited in scope (can't do 3d scan) is a start.

Wanted to download the app to see what it's capable of, but I can't find it on the Apple app store, and the link they provided on their blog does not work. The only one I see is called "KooPower Mesh" which doesn't seem like the right one.

Anyone had better luck than me in downloading the app?
