They will make up the discount in extra cleaning fees and admin fees.
Yes, even if the hosts policy is free cancellation you are still only allowed 3 per year. If you go over, you are required to pay the service fee. I believe the fine print is buried in airbnb's policy. I found out the hard way but may have had one refunded when I complained about the lack of transparency to the policy.

We often travel to neighboring cities for concerts and while the Airbnb cleaning/etc fees can be ridiculous, the other options in the area are either significantly more expensive or way too far from the venues we frequent.
This is very tempting but it looks like you still can't apply the credit to an existing trip. You also have to do pay in full still I believe? I guess I could cancel and re-book a stay I planned.

I just booked a $4,000 stay last night and thinking about doing the same. Just remember you only get 3 free cancellations per year. Also, I only paid for 1/2 my trip thus far and it is allowing me to apply a gift card to the remainder. Just make sure it's loaded to your account and it will pop up.

They limit cancellations even if you are in the cancellation window? I just recently switched back to AirBnb from VRBO but I've already got 3 more stays booked with the partial payment over the next few months. If I can apply these to the rest then I'll pull the trigger on a ton of these. Looks like in the cart you can order 6 and it shows 6 target gift cards.
can you load airbnb gift cards into your account and have a 'balance' there until you need to book? Kind of like with amazon gift cards. I don't have anything planned yet but will probably sometime in the next year.

Yes. But then you're at the mercy of Airbnb, and if they deactivate that account the gift cards are useless. Though if you don't redeem them, you have to worry about them being forgotten about/lost/stolen.

If Airbnb deactivates your account??, what percentage of people are getting their accounts deactivated, I feel like that's pretty rare and probably people that are doing things they shouldn't be doing

The last time they had this promo, I was able to get it 3x.
I just ordered two (separate orders) and got two gift cards.
