Good find OP, went ahead and ordered one for my parents for Christmas. I do trust the Champion brand, they do seem to stand by their products and offer great youtube video tutorials (for things like floating the neutral) , if im not buying a Honda then Champion is probably the only other brand id trust.

Have a 6kW champion inverter and its been great.
You sound knowledgeable. Any recommended sites for a beginner to learn about how to choose generators?
My friend bought a house that the electrician says has a plug for a generator in emergencies. I'm wanting to buy him one for Xmas but have no idea where to start.
I'm obviously googling as well, but always find the best advice comes from real people.

Im not sure about any sites or guides as ive just sorted of picked up knowledge through owning them and such, but I think the most important thing is to find out what kind of connector he has, if its a 30 amp 240 volt twist lock or nema 14-50 50 amp connector or even 120 volt (120 volt transfer panels do exist but are rare). Many ways in which one could connect a generator.
You'd also need to make sure the generator can output 240 volt if that is what they have, then you need to figure out what circuits are powered by it and what kind of demand will be placed on the generator. You'd not want to buy a 4000 watt generator for someone that has a 4500 watt hot water heater on their transfer panel. There are a lot of variables but the most important are, how its going to connect and what kind of load will be placed on the generator. Some loads require a large amount of starting power like HVAC compressors, so would need an oversized generator or a microair soft start device.
Wow, this is a great deal. I grabbed one for my daughter to use during hurricanes to keep the fridge and freezer running. I already had a pair of the same generator but dual fuel and have been very pleased with both the generators (quiet and good clean power output) and Champion's customer service. I had an initial problem with one of the propane connectors and they had one overnighted to me. You can buy a kit to connect two of these to double the wattage. At 39 pounds, they don't break your back. I link two of them so I can run my Travel trailer 15,000 btu air conditioner. Thanks!
Anyone know why the description states 'This unit is not recommended for emergency home backup'...
Because it is a portable generator for general recreation. This is not a proper emergency standby generator. Those are much, MUCH more expensive then $350. This is also much smaller than what would typically be connected to a home anyway.
Awesome deal. I have the 2000W version of the same generatora that was $339 on Woot.com about a year ago. This thing is probably the best little generator if you don't want to pay for the Honda. I broke it in by running it at 1500W load for a an hour hours and changed the oil. This thing starts right up and is very quiet. This will not run the whole house obviously but you can power your fridge and some other small things in an emergency. It's great on gas too.
I dont understand why you are claiming there are red flags? What is the issue, I bought this and am curious, what gives you pause? Champion is about the only brand you can buy and have some small amount of faith in, besides Honda, since all of Champions engineers and customer support are USA based. They make great YouTube video tutorials and genuinely make an effort in the US market , which is more than can be said for the vast majority of Chinese made Gen sets/brands.

Sounds like the guy doesn't know generators because this is an excellent value.
Excellent deal. I have the dual fuel version and it is great. Not the same build quality as my Honda EU2000, but also not $1000. I was able to parallel the Honda and the Champion also. If I didn't have the Honda, I would get one of these for paralleling. The dual fuel is used mainly for the camper.
