My 10 year old one is starting to fade, even after replacing the impeller with a 3D-printed part, it's barely hanging in there so time for a fresh one. We only use for drip coffee so unless there is a better option for a grinder that I can just hit a single button and get a repeatable amount of coffee ground and will last a decade or more, please comment.

Please educate the uneducated - why would I get this when my Breville Barista has a built-in grinder?

In this case you would want a stand alone grinder for the ability to have a wider range of types of grinds for different kinds of coffee. The barista built in grinder I would say is more fine tuned for making just espresso with it. I personally bought the pro right now because I bought the breville bambino which is a stand alone espresso maker and I'm also interested in other types of coffee. A lot of the coffee snobs will tell you both grinders are not good but that's how it is with any hobby unless you shell out a lot of money. As long as you enjoy your coffee that's all that matters imo

You don't need it but for some they prefer getting a separate grinder rather than having a built-in one. I believe the main reason is for repair purposes. If the grinder breaks you have to send the whole thing if you have the express compared to having a separate grinder and coffee maker. For enthusiasts, in a nutshell, the stand alone grinders works the best to make the best coffee.

The Barista is perfect for espresso, however I always suggest Capresso Infinity

Same price on Amazon. Just learned I have been doing espresso 'all wrong' with the Barizta Encore for years. Pulled the trigger, let's see if this one will be any better.

We have this model and IMHO, it is money well spent. I used it to refill Nespresso Vertuo 14.4 ounce pods when they were discontinued. The biggest gripe is the static causes the transfer to get a little messy. I found a Barista Pro at TJMaxx for $500 so am not sure how much more use this will get.

Price reverted to $199 on BBB when added to cart. Amazon to rescue.

I bought this as my dual-purpose espresso / drip coffee grinder and it's good enough at that......but I really wish I bought a better grinder that could handle espresso grinding better. This one clogs up pretty easily when grinding super fine, and has a lot of retention so you can't really weigh out beans and then have that amount come out into your portafilter. You have to weigh again after it's in the portafilter to ensure accuracy. I may have spent a bit more in hindsight on something like a Sette 270. If espresso is your main concern, do that instead if you can.

I've owned the older version of this Breville grinder, as well as the Baratza Virtuoso, and I liked the Breville better. I would say both grinders are on par with each other (they are both also owned by the same company), except the Breville is easier to use and you don't have to think on how long you want to grind for. Just punch how many shots / cups you want and it'll do the rest.

Pro tip: only turn the burr grinder "grind setting" on both of these when the motor is running to get more life out of the machine.
