If you're going to go through hassle of installing an RO system, at least get 4 stages to include the sediment filter. I have a 5 stage system (no UV light) and it's great, have had it for about 7 years now and parts to eventually fail so I had to replace the tank and the housing for the filters, but still worth it to have excellent water (I use a TDS meter and the city water is about 210-220 where after the RO system, I'm getting 12-14 TDS which is cleaner than bottle water). We use RO water for cooking, coffee, etc and everything taste great.

Lol, illegal. That term is used so liberally. It's against the building codes in some places. As a homeowner one has the right to whatever you want to do within your own home, but at your own risk.

However, if a licensed plumber or contractor were to do something against the code, then they are in violation and may lose their license.

Read the reviews on Costco, people complaining about the availability and price of filters and there seems to be leaking issues down the road.

We just got there water drop G3? Or maybe 2 from Costco on BF. Haven't installed yet but from my research tankless RO is the way to go. And a reputable company with plenty of replacement filter availability.

I had a tankless RO. The only downside was when it first dispenses water it's poor quality. It has to rinse for a bit.

I bought a similar water filter from Costco in 2020. It was awful. The parts were not US sized and so I couldn't even install it. I did install the faucet (remained unused), but it rusted out quickly. I have usually had very good luck with Costco, but that item was a total bust. I have no idea what this water filter is like, but I will be avoiding it. I will probably get one from one of the major hardware stores.

Unfortunately I waited several months to install it and so assumed Costco won't take it back. It still sitting in my garage.

noob question, I have been wanting to have a RO system but the only opening by the sink is taken up by the dishwasher air gap. Is there any way to install a RO system without having to drill a new hole on the granite countertop? I asked a plumber and he said "no" and strongly advice against forgoing the airgap for the dishwasher.
You can buy a different faucet with an integrated air gap, which will eliminate the need for an additional hole.

The rationale for airgap is to reduce or eliminate the risk of backflow contamination of the filtered water with the system wastewater or with the sinks waste water.

If it is important, an additional "not recognized by code" item is the saddle clamp for the drain tube. Which could be replaced by a tail piece with a drain line adapter or a dishwasher adapter with a drain line adapter. (a lot of adapters). Search for "drain line adapter".

Don't even bother with this brand. Filter works great!…until you have to replace them. It's impossible to find filters for this brand. t's a wonder that Costco still allows this to be sold in their stores. May as well be marketed as a "Disposable system".

This is a brilliant idea.
But then do you remove the fridge filter? Ours won't work without a filter.
Correct, without filter or bypass plug, water/ice won't work. There is a bypass plug should be available. Go to Sears parts, enter your fridge model, and look on diagram. If you can't find it, give your model # and I'll help you look for it.

I have bought this from Costco last year. The membrane filter - middle one clogs every 3 months and it's $50 to replace. I don't recommend if your water is too salty.
That's when u install pre filter like I did

Mine didn't have one or I just couldn't find it, I pull it out n cut the line from in and out of the filter n connect it back with a push in coupler

I also had the air vent issue when first installed, it sound like air and water went into the same sink pipe , n it loud chugging noise. I think because the waste drain spot was higher than the system itself , so it's hard to push out. Either that or air didn't vent enough to let water drain out. What I did was make longer line to run my waste down to the basement n go to my washer drain. I also added 1 way flow valve just to prevent if waste from washer push back to my system. But I doubt that because from my kitchen sink down is like 9 feet at least.

Will Costco give us the guarantee that this supplier won't disappear overnight? Just like their T-Mobile seller did.

I thought the air gap was for if your sink drain got clogged, say at your disposal, not the dishwasher drain. The dishwasher and its drain line could be working fine, but since in most cases it drains into your disposal, the dirty water from your sink could backflow into your dishwasher.

I agree a high drain loop works as effectively as an air gap. It's more about local building codes and what they allow or not, as opposed to what works.
Yup, happened to us a few months ago, flooded around the dishwasher with dirty plugged sink water. Whups

Removal of the air gap is illegal in most areas. Drill another hole or get a countertop RO

Well the air gap is there to prevent nasty drain water from backflowing into your dishes, so you wouldn't want to remove that air gap.

Install it in the laundry room. Grab a little mount like this one [amazon.com] and put it on the wall along with the filters, get a splitter valve [amazon.com] for the cold water behind your washing machine, put a hose to 3/8" RO adapter [amazon.com] on one outlet, and run the drain down the washing machine drain.

I mounted the entire RO system to a backing board and hung it in the laundry room, so when it needs to come down for cleaning or parts replacement I can just pull the whole system down and take it to the workbench.
That's actually a great idea, I might do that next time around. No matter how careful you are, you'll get water on the interior of your cabinets, would be nice to not have to deal with that.

For those worrying about drilling through granite, its not a big deal. I was a bit nervous but I made a wood template/guide. Just drill a hole thorough the wood using the bit you intend to use, then hot glue it to the counter where you want it. Drill, remove the guide, and done. Takes about 20 minutes with a regular cordless drill.
