Bought these last time. Yes, they keep my coffee warmer than ceramic as the sides don't get hot so most of the heat is lost from the top. Happy with them.

I see it's insulated, but will this be noticeably better at maintaining temperature than a standard ceramic mug?

can't speak for the one-starrers, though i have suspicions, but the 2 of these i got a couple years ago i give 5 stars. At this price point I would not be surprised if there are the occasional duds, it's always a risk.
