This is a great beginner bass package, but I feel it may be a little too big for a 10 year old. This is a full size 34" scale bass. You might be better served getting a short scale 30" bass which will be easier to play. If it's not a surprise gift, maybe head to the music store and try both out.

Last time this bundle was on sale in early September, it was $299 and I almost bought it, but I slept on it, and they ran out of stock. I ended up getting the same bass (PJ Affinity Tobacco Burst with the black pick guard) from this pack from Fender for $279, that was on September 10th. I have a bass amp but I would have liked to use the little rumble amp. Good deal if you can get it. I'm happy with the bass so far.

They also have the mikro scale by Ibanez on sale. You can get a cheap $20 carrying case and small amp and you'll have a nice bundle for a younger child.
