I've never been burned on anything but memory from Amazon, but it's been nearly every time. Avoid.

Maybe mine was a fluke, but I had to return it. The connection just fell out of mine in two devices.

oooohhhh ok. lol I was referring to counterfeit memory cards and or collectible cards. Amazon is notorious for not checking their inventory. Sometimes people get counterfeit SD Cards like Sandisk Cards or even USB Flash Drives like this Samsung.
Yeah, that's what I was referring to. SSDs, uSD cards mostly. It's all a gamble. If I think I have time to dick around with verifying whether something is counterfeit, I'll still chance it, but my free time is usually worth more than that these days.

Go to:
https://semiconductor.samsung.com...ort/tools/

At the bottom of the page click on the down pointing arrow head of
Card & UFD Software
Samsung Memory Card & UFD Authentication Utility (4)

It brings up the download for a utility and for the user's manual.
I found the utility very easy to use, even w/o reading the manual.
As soon as I launched the utility it looked for any Samsung product (memory card or UFD) attached and tested it in a couple of seconds.

Nope. The have a history of mixing stock with vendors. An employee told me that Amazon also buys known counterfeits of certain items. They do honor returns though, so you're not risking much as long as you know how to test it.
Your friend working in the warehouse has lots of stories I'm sure. Amazon is not knowingly sourcing counterfeit items. Also I've purchased memory from Amazon a handful of times. Never had an issue. I know it happens but it's not as widespread as slick dealers would make you think.

Amazon is definitely knowingly sourcing counterfeit items. Maybe it's not official company policy, but it is happening. What I was told is that books specifically are purchased from places that aren't the official publisher for a fraction of what the official publisher sells them for. They're full of typos and whatnot, I'm guessing from OCR failures. My friend was occasionally responsible for packing them up and shipping them back to some warehouse whenever the publisher called them out on it. It sounded like a weekly occurrence.

As far as mixing stock, it's just what I've heard third hand from forums. I'm always careful to make sure amazon is the seller for certain items. The last time I purchased a Sandisk High Endurance card from Amazon, in 2017, it died in 2 months. I replaced it with some kind of regular memory card I had laying around and that lasted the lifespan of the dashcam. I don't know for sure that it was a fake, but I'm sick of having to examine every memory purchase. I'd rather pay more to a more reputable supplier.
