Great price but most of the reviews state it isnt consistant speeds and has frequent drops.

I wonder if this is portable as long as you have an oulet for power?
I had this from its inception, originally it wasn't too bad-as time went on the signal got worse and buffered like nuts, 3 TV's a pc and phone. I finally gave up after 7 months and terrible to non-existent customer service. The price is definitely tempting, btw, their newer modem was worst than their first, I had a pc fan underneath to cool it down, no difference.
If true it's a no brainer. I have the service. You can expect 100mbs-300mbs. Down time nonexistent.

I just signed up for this service few weeks ago on a $40 for life promo and the service is amazing. I'm getting 540mbps download and 57mbps upload. The only downside is the ping speed is ~367ms

Can this be used as a mobile unit for camping and/or RVing across most of the country?

If so, it could be powered by a generator with an ac converter or perhaps it has DC hookup for a battery.
Yes. As long as tmobile provides service in that area. If you're traveling outside of your state that your service address is in, you may have issues. The power draw is minimal. No more than a toaster.

It's not ideal for gaming. Heads up. But streaming it works fantastic.

I have this, it appears to lock to the strongest signal tower near you. (I have 3 near me) It would make sense to call them when relocating to reset that proverbial lock...
Should re"lock" every reboot. and the "lock" should be band, not tower. Should = I think….

Anyone familiar, do you have to have the postpaid mobile service or can you just have the internet part for $25 + fees per month? If true, would be great to have a backup internet. TIA!

I want to try this but I am a little concerned. We have Frontier fios now 500/500 at about $70 a month, no issues.

Have 5-6 nest cameras running 24/7

Stream 2 TVs at a time

Use YouTube tv and other streaming services

Use PS4/5 and Switch for online gaming such as Fortnite and Call of Duty

Spouse and I both work from home. I can have teams/webex calls that last 8 straight hours

Is T-Mobile internet even something that would work for us?

I would say you will likely experience disconnects with that much traffic. Only way to know is to try and keep your other service active but off for a few days. If problems exist you'll notice them within a week in my experience. Upload speeds vary greatly in my tests and sometimes slow to 1 megabit upstream. Everyone will have different results speed wise.

I have a similar setup as you and have a 17 year old daughter... Probably won't work for us. We currently use a fiber line and it still struggles to keep up sometimes. (well only when I'm on a teams call and my wife is watching netlix in 4k at the same time)

Haha Tmobile and I have different definitions of "for life." They offered a very low amount of data for tablets "for life" a few years ago. I bought SIMs from them for several of our tablets. Then at some random point T-Mobile decoded that everyone/the tablets are no longer "alive" and disabled all the SIMs we bought. Contacted t-mobile and they claimed WE asked to close the accounts. Then they just bounce you around to foreign run departments until you give up.

Long story short, T-mobile lies and lies, and I have no doubt that as soon as they get their feet in the door with this allegedly "for life" offer, people will soon discover T-mobile was lying about this offer too. I'm stuck with their service because they were competitive at one point (before they swallowed Sprint), but am frequently keeping eyes open for another company that has something close in price for lighting up several phones and watches and tablets.

I would hesitate, if I were you. For every person who has good experience, there is another with poor experience.

You know you can save 45 bucks per month by switching, but what can you lose by switching and it doesn't go well? Sounds like you and your spouse's jobs are heavily reliant on stable, consistent internet. So think about what you risk, then I think you will be able to make a decision.

Good luck!

Probably right...and T-Mobile customer service in the Philippines will be of no use if any issues arise. All they will do is suggest a master reset, reconnect to the tower on their end, or send you a refurbished device as a replacement. Ultimately you have to fix all problems yourself or cancel the service if you have issues. One time, I even noticed that changing the default admin password on the modem caused a huge drop in speeds. After changing it back to the default password the speeds returned to normal. Why this happens? Nobody at T-Mobile knows.

I am seeing they have a $100 rebate promotion as well. Were you able to snag that? I wonder if the $100 kick back will remain once this $25/month for life promo starts
