Great price but most of the reviews state it isnt consistant speeds and has frequent drops.

I wonder if this is portable as long as you have an oulet for power?
I had this from its inception, originally it wasn't too bad-as time went on the signal got worse and buffered like nuts, 3 TV's a pc and phone. I finally gave up after 7 months and terrible to non-existent customer service. The price is definitely tempting, btw, their newer modem was worst than their first, I had a pc fan underneath to cool it down, no difference.
If true it's a no brainer. I have the service. You can expect 100mbs-300mbs. Down time nonexistent.

The service really is dependent on your proximity to the tower, tower last update, and total users in your area using that tower. We are in a very rural area, so this or a physical 80-100' tower at our house hitting the local electrical utility is the only other option. We've had it since the beginning of COVID, so about 1.5yrs fully remote 6-8hrs of Teams meetings, some 2way video, kids remoter Zooming, and others streaming. Average monthly usage is about 500gb-700gb, high peak COVID was more like 900+gb and it was never slowed down. It will struggle on the upload, so you will usually have to turn off your video feed or just turn off all video feeds most the time video in conference is overused for no reason. Our speeds down average about ~200, but the up really is sporadic at some times 5-80, ie the reason upload video feed will not work well from your side. On reliability, its maybe dropped completely only 1-2 times during the last 3yrs. If we had other options, at the same price point would go with a dedicated line service.

It's basically like a super hotspot lol not close to spectrum or any other dsl service
I am rural so no major internet suppliers, and DSL copper wire with 2mbps max, so T-Mobile is a good option that usually gets me 100-300 mbps. It has its faults like slow latency and slower speeds in the late afternoon, but for people with no other access it's a really good option

Back when I had dialup we used something called Shotgun that let us use two modems with two phone lines to get double the speed. Is this still a thing? Tmobile has faster upload than Comcast where I live so it would be nice to either supplement the upload speed with a hotspot or replace it without giving up the wired download speeds.

Thank you. The one he describes appears to cap at 900 Mbps, but they might have another product that trades higher bandwidth for some of the commercial features I don't need. At any rate, this is promising and a good leed. Thanks.

We used our T-Mobile 5G Gateway in our RV/Motorhome, when we park in different locations. Haven't tried while driving tho.
Otr truck driver. It works while driving. I download movies while on the move. I usually average around 500 gb a day down.

I'll give this a go. I am on Spectrum basic internet for a couple years @ 50/mth. However, they recently increase that to 79.99/mth.

Like someone else mentioned, that is for the lite version, not the unlimited version.

I've been using it for 4 months with 400-500 down and 40 - 50 up. It's been reliable and great. I work remote and so far has been like I was wired. My area has no wired internet, so this was a life saver.
Just signed last week to try it, will ask for adjustment if this price is true, speed goes up to 600mb down and 75mb up , cancelled xfinite next day. ApplauseApplauseApplause

We don't get full 5g here, but still get 75 - 100 Mbps down and 8-12 Mbps up. 5 times the speed as we had with DSL and costs less. Service has been VERY reliable.

The quality of Tmobile Home Internet will depend heavily on your specific location. I had two lines. One works very well, consistently hitting 50mbps with stable pings. The other fluctuates between 1mbps and 100mbps with multiple random dropouts throughout the day.

So it's definitely YMMV. Worth a shot at this price if your current ISP sucks.

From the CNET story [cnet.com]:

If you have multiple lines on your account, such as a family plan where not everyone still lives together, the carrier confirms to CNET that you could activate multiple T-Mobile Home Internet lines at the discounted $25 promo rate, so long as the addresses are eligible for the Home Internet service.

Buy it, try it and be the judge. This service is not going to be for everyone. But it's welcome change in ISP industry.

I've been on Home Internet since for over a year and a half. We've had 2 times of about 6 hours each where the service went down in that time. In comparison, we had spectrum that went out for about an entire day once every month or two. Our download and upload speeds are consistently faster.

Also, they won't let you move your router too far from its activation site. You can't just take it with you wherever you go.

Just my experience. Both Verizon and TMobile home internet work great. TMobile said it wasn't available at my address so I ordered it to another address that was qualified and I had no issue using it at my home that wasn't "qualified". Between 150-200 Mbps down and 30 up consistently.

I switched to verizon after since my phone plan lowered the cost to $25 instead of $50. Verizon was also not available at my house but did same trick of using another address. Speeds are about 50-75 Mbps faster on the download than I received from TMobile. I was happy with both services and found them very reliable.

This is a fantastic deal if someone lives near their full 5Guc coverage.

For me, may not be great and just throwing $25 away because:
  • My four lines are Magenta Max
  • If Fios is down, we can use our hotspot during that time
So if you have great home internet service and already have hotspot plans through your mobile provider, this isn't for you unless you REALLY want it for reasons.
