Great price but most of the reviews state it isnt consistant speeds and has frequent drops.

I wonder if this is portable as long as you have an oulet for power?

I had this from its inception, originally it wasn't too bad-as time went on the signal got worse and buffered like nuts, 3 TV's a pc and phone. I finally gave up after 7 months and terrible to non-existent customer service. The price is definitely tempting, btw, their newer modem was worst than their first, I had a pc fan underneath to cool it down, no difference.

If true it's a no brainer. I have the service. You can expect 100mbs-300mbs. Down time nonexistent.

Something that might make this a dealbreaker for anyone who works from home or is streaming a lot of 4K (or otherwise using a lot of bandwidth), I was told by a T-Mobile CSR there is a soft data cap of 100GB per month at full 5G speeds "Heavy Data User" even for this home internet offering. For example I am seeing approx. 600Mbps at the gateway device for 5G, but was told I'd be throttled down to 4G speeds if I exceeded that 100GB threshold in a billing cycle. When I asked what 4G speeds meant, the CSR told me 256kbps, which I figured could not be right, because that is way too slow to be useable. I asked for him to repeat, and asked if he meant 256Mbps, to which he said no, Kbps (lol)

I then asked if I could pay more to remove the cap, and he said there's no way to increase it. For comparison's sake, Xfinity high speed internet usage caps at 1.2TB before they charge you more (an extra $10 for additional 50GB additional, never exceeding $100 additional), but they don't *throttle* speed. An important distinction for those who work remotely or otherwise need reliable high-speed internet.

For reference I activated my T-Mobile 5G gateway 3 days ago and I'm already somehow over 30GB (could be PS5 CoD update downloads or something), and at this rate will prob exceed 100GB by end of week. Then if service degrades significantly to an unusable speed I plan to return the device to my local T-Mobile within the 15 day trial window. I'll update/reply here when I exceed it.

Source: https://www.xfinity.com/learn/int...rvice/data
"Customers who use more than 1.2 TB of data in a month for the first time will not be billed for exceeding the limit. After that, blocks of 50 GB will automatically be added to your account for an additional fee of $10 each plus tax. Charges will not exceed $100 each month, no matter how much data you use."

I wasn't able to find T-Mobile's Home Internet disclaimer about throttling anywhere other than with their generic internet disclaimers on the deal page:

"Network Management: Service may be slowed, suspended, terminated, or restricted for misuse, abnormal use, interference with our network or ability to provide quality service to other users. See T-Mobile.com/OpenInternet for details. See Terms and Conditions (including arbitration provision) at www.T-Mobile.com for additional information."

And once you click on the T-Mobile.com/OpenInternet link you get
"T-Mobile Home Internet (available in select locations) customers receive the same network prioritization as Heavy Data Users, but should be less likely to experience congestion because the equipment is stationary and available in limited areas."
Nope. There is no cap. It's deprioritized behind cell phones

I have been using the T-Mobile Home Internet for more than one year, with a Nokia gateway. Recently I went to the T-Mobile store to sign up for this promotion, and got the new version of internet gateway. Here is my experience: the old gateway outperform the new gate way!. When I looked more carefully into the speed test results, I noted that the culprit is the "packet loss". For the old gateway, the packet loss is less than 5%, while the new gateway has packet loss of more than 80%. Maybe I got a defective gateway. If you get slow internet speed, you may want to check the speed test results. I also find that the old gateway allows the user to set/change many hardware parameters, while the new gateway has very few user-accessible hardware setting. This note is for my home internet situation, and it is obviously not applicable to other users.
You can't get this promo if you already have T-Mobile home internet. 1 per account.

Some people are claiming reps are telling them they can't get this rate because they already have insider hookup, which is not true.

If you're thinking gaming or torrenting - forget it, they will throttle it even if you have good 5G coverage and towers next to your house.
No problem with games or torrent apps at my location. Lightning fast torrent downloads.

I have my gateway connected to an Ecoflow power station, very handy to move the gateway around the house to test. Seeing about the same as far as power consumption, 8 watts idle, but max I've seen is only 11 watts while running a speedtest, though only 2 client connections.

What's crazy is that even in the middle of my basement (no window, just solid concrete walls all around), I'm still getting ~260 down and ~60 up. Testing it on double-NAT right now, with the gateway and secondary router in the basement, still about the same speed with no real hit in latency. Super impressed with the service. Just submitted for my $100 virtual card.
I measured the Arcadyan power draw with a true RMS Fluke 87 meter. Constant 0.116A at 119VAC at idle. Waited about 10 min but no change in current. Are you measuring the current and voltage when calculating power draw? How long did you wait before obtaining the idle reading?

There are conflicting info regarding this. Per the terms of the promo some are interpreting that your can get a second TMHI with the $25 but if you cancel anything including the already existing TMHI then the $25 will get removed.

Other T-Mobile reps are saying that based on previous deal with the same language as this promo you can add the 2nd TMHI and get the $25 promo on it, then wait 91 days or a little bit more and then cancel the 1st TMHI that doesn't have the promo. That the promo will stick to the 2nd TMHI line.

Up to you if you want to risk it and see if the 2nd approach works.

just set up the new Arcadyan to replace my old Nokia. Put it in the exact same spot, don't notice any difference in DL/UL speed, perhaps UL is a little better. I have not tinkered with the Arcadan yet (turning off its WiFi since I use WiFi mesh as I did with the Nokia). Now just need to figure out how to submit $100 rebate and activate the new iPhone coming tomorrow as I signed up a new line/new account to get this deal.

I just got my tmobile gateway today. My plan is to use it at beach house that is located in different zip code in the same county as my permanent address.I would like to experiment and see how well it works at permanent address before I install in second home. Will this cause any issues in account? according to what tmobile online chat told me it would.

For those of you who already have T-Mobile's Home Internet service at the $50 per month rate, you might try calling customer service to get the promotional rate. I was contacted by T-Mobile last month to try their 5G Home Internet for $50 per month. So, I did. Then the promotion comes out. I contacted T-Mobile's customer service and explained the issue and how I would have waited a month for the promotional $25 per month. He said that I had to have a Magenta account to qualify. I told him I have been with them since 2010 and that the Magenta accounts didn't even exist. He put me on hold for 5 minutes and came back and said that he was giving me the promotional $25 per month, but that it would take 1-2 business days to show up. So, you might try it. My account doesn't yet show the new rate, but it's been only 12 hours since I called. I have to say that I've been using T-Mobile's 5G Home Internet for nearly a month and it has worked flawlessly. Prior to that, I had Spectrum, which was having more outages lately.
