If you are looking to have a beach to yourself just go to one of the other islands and avoid Provo!

This doesn't seem like much of a deal, considering all the restrictions and the small price cut

FYI… Hotels are $1000+ a night and half day excursions are 2000+

I was there in April. Other than Grace Bay Beach, we had every other beach to ourselves. Long Bay Beach was my favorite.

If you have the United explorer card. Your carryon and your spouse or whoever get a free carryon too.

Yeah. Most airlines have implemented tiers of service to compete with the low cost carriers that have always acted that way. I don't have an issue with it - if you don't want to pay for a "free" checked bag, why not offer a cheaper fare for people that don't? BUT, what it DOES mean is being really careful about comparing fares between carriers. Kayak has a section in their search where you can specify carry on and checked baggage but it doesn't always work from what I've found. So, if you see a super cheap fare make sure to scrutinize it to be sure it meets your needs.

Frankly it's annoying, especially since what demarks levels of service is typically not only carryons, checked bags, but also if you get to choose seats ahead of time. Since I tend to travel with small children for personal travel, do I go with the higher fares so I get to pick seats together, or just go with the low fare and when someone doesn't want to sit next to a 4 year old, let the airline deal with it? I mean, you'd think they'd realize that splitting up young kids or the elderly from the rest of their group would be a bad idea.
