Some tips I learned on initial setup. The factory loaded ChromeOS has terrible wi-fi. Bring the Chromebook really close to the router. Update ChromeOS to latest version 108 and wifi works well afterwards. Also the backlight keyboard can be hard to see on default light settings. Use Atl-Brightness lo or hi button to decrease/increase the backlight to see the keyboard letters. This is a terrific value.

Your probably thinking the Screw write protect method. -- The new CR50 methods just need to disconnect the battery to disable Write protect.

01. Hold ESC-Refresh -- tap Power to boot to ChromeOS in Recovery Mode --
Press CTRL-D to enter Developer Mode and disable verification --- allow ChromeOS wipe ~5mins
02. Login to ChromeOS via google credz and establish WIFI connectivity with ur router. - shutdown Chromebook -- disconnect Power
03.Take apart bottom half and disconnect Battery - leave off and reconnect Power cable only to Chromebook-- boot into ChromeOS (This will disable "Write Protect" mode)
04.Launch Chrome Browser then press Ctrl-ALT-T to launch a Terminal
05. Type "Shell" to enter shell mode and paste the MrChromebox.tech script in there:

cd; curl -LO mrchromebox.tech/firmware-util.sh; sudo install -Dt /usr/local/bin -m 755 firmware-util.sh; sudo firmware-util.sh

06. select Option to install Full UEFI Firmware -- run through the prompts (because i can't remember them all) -- let it do its thing and reboot -- and you should get a coreboot "bunny" logo BIOS
07. Install Windows/Linux as any other x86 PC - through bootable ThumbDrive. - may need to find a Win11 TPM bypass method (with rufus)

08. shutdown and reinstall battery as before and your done.

I have this laptop. At 129 it's fantastic.

Only things I dislike (but cannot complain about at the price) wifi chip is horrible. Reception is fine inside the house but as soon as I go into my backyard it refuses to connect. I can walk 3 houses down on my phone and other devices. Again can't complain for the price...

The trackpad feels a bit sensitive, could be a lot better, but not too big an issue.

Still hoping someone that has this can tell me if it has an NVMe slot. I'm inclined to think no, since I looked all over the net for specs and don't see it mentioned anywhere. Kind of a bummer if you want to convert it to use Windows, since it only has 64GB storage.

Did you check YouTube for the tear downs?

I just took mine apart to test if I could install Linux via battery disconnect. No nvme.

Great Chromebook. Bought the 128gb model for like $300 at the start of Covid to replace my wife's aging windows machine.

For consuming media, the screen and volume are great. The keyboard is a little hard to see the letters. (You can buy a cheap skin on Amazon to remedy this). Really nice looking design/build quality (looks like a midrange device, at least). My wife uses it for mostly web apps, and home fiances. Works great, no lag. She didn't want a touchscreen (didn't plan to really play games and stuff).

This is a standard NON touchscreen clamshell design. It's a use like a laptop device, and not lug around like a tablet, IMO.

Excellent deal at this price

Bought this for 119 Black Friday. This is insane value. Metal exterior, nice screen 1080p doesn't suck. Plenty of speed and ram. It actually feels way more quality than it should.
