Oh man, only 4 SATA parts. Good deal if you don't need the ports.

NOTE: the 12600K combo for $252 is not with the TUF motherboard, they have switched it to match with the less featured Prime board.
See Here: https://www.microcenter.com/produ...oard-combo

Its still a decent combo, but gives up some small features to the TUF board.

This is a far better deal than the 11700K deal they are now trying to push for $289. Not sure what they are thinking there. They had the 11700k combo for $200 at one point and still couldn't sell them.

I had that dilemma too. I went ahead anyway and did it last month (when it was still $350) and I have no regrets. I was carrying 7 SATA devices. I bought a $30 USB 3.0 case for my BluRay drive, got rid of an unneeded CD-R/DVD-R, retired 3 old spinning drives (dated from 2008-2014), got a new 1TB M.2 and a new 6TB spinning drive, kept a 4TB Hitachi and a 512GB M.2 and I'm all set with 1 extra SATA port. Total storage is 11.5TB,

If I find the need for more storage, I think I will have to ask myself, what am I keeping all this for?

I know MCs are very YMMV (literally), but for anyone who's been eyeing the 12th gen CPU + TUF Z690 D4 deals they've gotten a pretty big discount. 12600k is a phenomenal deal (I picked up two of the latter at $350), and 12900K is still decent given what a 13700k + MB would be.

You have the wrong link for the 12600K combo. The deal is no longer with the TUF board.

Thanks - I've been tracking 12th gen deals (cpu alone or combo) for months and it's been interesting. I grabbed two 12700k TUF combos at $350 to upgrade a couple of spare computers, then thought about the $299 12600k combo. Ended up getting a 13600k for $280 and was waiting on a mb. Pricing had been weird at my Rockville location; 11700k and 11700 for 299 (240 open box), $200 590 combo going to $288. The key is to wait for these, but also buy at whatever you consider great value. You can always save $20 in 3 months but even the $350 12700k combo was awesome. That said, they do jack up the prices randomly in between.

I ended up grabbing a 12900k tuf combo, putting a 12700k in a small matx rack case, using it to flash for 13th gen (13600k). Everyone in the house got an upgrade including my garage 'server' and my nephew who got a 10900k. All for about the same price as a 13900k and Z790 at MSRP ha.

Thinking about the 12900 deal to replace the 11700f and bare-bones MOBO that came in my Asus prebuilt.

Is it dumb to buy a ddr4 board right now? Would I see any real-world improvement with ddr5?

Currently paired with a 3070.

It says the motherboard supports 4x M.2 and 4x SATA. I always thought an M.2 would disable one SATA port or is that only on certain motherboards?

I've used ddr4 on all my 12/13th gen systems. I use a lot (64 for most, 128 for two vm-heavy ones) so ddr5 would be completely prohibitive. If you upgrade/change often or need more than 32 I would go 4 and upgrade in a couple of years.

They did sell them though. Sold out most everywhere.

Keeping it? I wonder how many backups you have…. The only thing I have that I care about are pictures and videos. Besides iCloud… I have most of them in Amazon Glacier storage.
