I normally don't write reviews but this printer was so horrible I am writing my first one. Here's why...
1. It comes with an installation CD. After much research it appears this is the ONLY way to install it as a wireless network printer. So if you have a laptop without a CD drive... well, too bad.
2. So then your only option is to plug it in to your lap top using the old school USB printer cable they provide... unless you have an Apple or other laptop without an old school original-type USB port, and then... well too bad again.
3. So then your last option is to try and download the needed tools from the Canon web site, except for that site seems to consist mainly of "page does not exist" and "access forbidden" web pages. And when you do find a page with working download links, you get zipped packs of random files, that once unzipped still don't seem to contain the installation tools or drivers that you need.
After 90 minutes of frustration, I gave up and sent it back to Amazon, and then ordered an HP printer.
The upsides are: Aftermarket toner carts are something like $25, plentiful, and cheap. Small size when folded up.
Downsides are: It's relatively slow. WiFi setup is bad and requires that CD (don't ever lose it). Drivers are not the best.
It looked like an okay buy to me, but there were some unique considerations that made me buy the Brother printer instead. Otherwise I very well might have bought this.
It's probably best for people who don't print often and don't print much.

In any case, I held the WPS button until it flashed, then pressed the WPS button on my TP-Link router. It connected in a few seconds.
Then either click Add Device in your Printers and Scanners settings in Windows, which will add the generic driver.
Or download the driver setup from the Canon product page (not sure why you said it was CD only?...) and install it via that. It will detect it over the network. This gives you more control over the print settings and other advanced features. I installed it just so that I could turn on the toner saver.
You can also install it via USB for either method. The Add Device method via USB will not install it for wifi however. The Canon driver setup will allow you to set it as either hardwired or wifi.
The printer is actually really snappy; it boots on extremely quickly and connects to wifi in about 3 seconds after pressing the power on switch.
I bought this because it was $20-30 cheaper than the refurb Brother printer that was on sale. The brother is better if you want/need duplex and the third party cartridge replacements are slightly cheaper, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the third party cartridges for this were incredibly cheap as well.
