The Fenix watches are indestructible and their battery life alone makes these worth it. If you want a watch that you can look at instagram on this isn't it. You can get notifications and respond or dismiss (I use mine for 2 factor push notifications when logging in at work) but the main reason this watch is so good is the outdoor activity tracking and battery life. I run about 30 miles a week and charge my watch maybe every 10 days or so. I took it backpacking in Patagonia and it easily lasted a full day backpacking, probably could have got two full days of tracking out of it but I brought a battery charger to make sure. It works great for tracking your ski runs throughout the day too.
The only negative to this watch IMO is the size. It's a pretty big watch face and sometimes will get snagged on my backpack strap when i'm putting my backpack on. Also this may look weird on your arm if it is dainty. Other than that, this this watch is 10/10. Get it if you need something for running/hiking/cycling.

I can recommend the Coros Pace. The battery life is great and it's very lightweight. The only drawback is that it doesn't have maps.
Thanks scamboogery! Was looking at the Fenix 6X yesterday and saw your post. Ended up purchasing it last night.
I've been on a Garmin watch buying/trying spree the past month. Had a Garmin Fenix 3 HR for 5 years and upgraded to the Fenix 6x Sapphire. Ended up returning and getting the Epix 2 as well as the Venu 2+. Returned the Venu 2+ (not worth the money/felt cheap compared to the Fenix series).
I do really like the Epix 2 but the smaller watch face is killing me. The screen and touchscreen is great, just feels like a kids watch on my wrist, and just having a hard time justifying that much money. The touchscreen I don't ever really use. Feels like overkill compared to my old Fenix, hence going back to the 6X.
For those wondering, the 6X Pro is only diff from the 6X Sapphire in that it has Gorilla Glass vs Sapphire, as mentioned above. Difference in size in the various Fenix series - 6S is the smallest, 6 is the medium size, 6X is the largest. (1.2" for the 6S, 1.3" for the 6, 1.4" for the 6X - same goes for their other Fenix (and non Fenix) variants) On some watches there are other upgrades from the Gorilla Glass model to the Sapphire (ex, Epix 2 has multi-band GPS and extra storage on the Sapphire vs the Gorilla Glass model).
I put my Fenix 3 HR thru hell over 5 years (used GG) and never had any scratches to speak of on the face. What garycecs said is also true - it ain't an Apple Watch, receives basic notifications (can't reply back), can't take phone calls, doesn't have a touchscreen (the Fenix 7 series does), but it's tough as sh*t and the battery life is second to none.

Been on the same boat as you, except coming from Forerunner 935 that's on its last legs after nearly 5 years… if you were still looking for gorilla glass, here's the 6X-S for nearly identical pricing to OP's deal (Garmin like-new refurb tho w/2yr warranty):

Their site seems a bit sketch but they are legit/shipped it no issues. (For the others who were asking about the legitimacy of this site)
