FREE $10 Statement Credit from Chase for trying out their Chase Mobile app by Dec 31 - YMMV

I just received this promotional email from Chase stating that if you tried out their app by December 31, you would receive a free $10 statement credit on your next bill. The link given to me was unique, so YMMV.

The sender is Chase Card Services and the subject line is - "Account update: [YOUR NAME], you'll score a $10 statement credit for trying our app"

NOTE - You may also receive an alternate $5 statement credit.

Here's what my offer looked like.

Mobile check deposit? Zelle? Billpay? Outbound ACH? I can check my balance with 2 taps of a finger which is a substantial time improvement over opening a browser app, typing in chase, tapping autofill, and finally logging in. It's just easier and more convenient.
ok i don't deposit checks, everything i deal with is ach and if i have to get a paper check (like from one of the class action settlements), i deposit it at my credit union. i don't use zelle and i don't pay any bills on my apps because all my bills are on autopay (of the few i have, 100% of them). i have the amazon chase card and you charge things on amazon and auto pay from your chase checking; no need to see anything. all my transfers are auto and the one or two times i need to make a manual transfer, i do it thru the browser and chase is never the home but often it's part of the other banks' externals. i never check my chase balance, why? i guess what i am trying to say is for many people, you don't need the bank app on your phone. just like you don't need the b&m and some of my friends don't understand why i have never ever been inside of a chase b&m. sadly, the app is quickly going that way as well....don't need it for anything.

I'd expect a good portion Chase members do not use the app, which relates to why Chase is offering this promotion to encourage people to do so. I am in this group. I have a Chase bank account and have not downloaded the Chase app to my phone. Unfortunately I did not get the email offer.

I created my Chase account a couple years ago for a ~$2000 bonus, and do not use the account for day to day banking. I currently only use it to occasionally transfer cash to my Fidelity brokerage. The transfers are initiated from Fidelty rather than Chase, so I expect there is little I'd want to use an app for. I prefer to check balances of everything at once via Mint, rather than checking balance of each bank account separately with a unique app for each bank account. I also prefer to do banking over PC rather than phone, so aside from Mint, I rarely use banking apps and have not downloaded apps for other non-Chase banks..

Here's something you should wrap your head around - not everyone thinks like you, Surprise! I don't do banking on my phone, I have no reason to do banking on a tinny screen and it's faster on my desktop. I'm also one of those people who doesn't believe in having my entire life & business on a phone that can get stolen. So welcome to the world.

I received a bonus for signing up and creating a checking account with direct deposit, then a separate larger bonus for upgrading to Sapphire. As I recall Sapphire required making a $75k deposit and keeping it inside the account for 3 months. This occurred a couple years ago, so the offers are not available.

Chase recently had a $600 bonus listed on SlickDeals at https://slickdeals.net/f/15944491-chase-checking-savings-open-new-accounts-get-up-to-600-bonus-with-qualifying-activities?attrsrc=search%3Aterm%3Achase%7Csearch%3Apage%3A3%7Csearch%3Aposition%3A14%7Csearch%3Aresult_type%3Athread%7Csearch%3Aresult_id%3A15944491&src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 . However, now it is down to $200/$300, so may be better to hold out and wait. They also offer a $2000 bonus for private client, but it requires depositing $250k at 0.01% interest, so in my opinion not a good deal.

I only use Chase for credit cards I pay off every month. For normal banking, you are way better off with a good Credit Union, like BECU in my case. Their free accounts don't nickle and dime you like Chase. BECU pays better interest on the first $500 in checking and savings. Chase pays highway robbery interest on checking.

I assume you do use the alert notifications features via txt, right?

Assuming you carry the phone with you at all times, the app can get you instant alerts of usage. For example, it alerts me of any transaction over 1cent. If someone would get CC number and try to make a purchase, I would get an alert and can instantly lock the card, preventing more damage.

Sure you can get a txt message, and then wait until you get to your desktop or call in the number.

my bank will lockout the criminals for me. they don't wait for me to pay that kind of attention to what is essentially their problem. unfortunately they sometimes get a little bit ahead of themselves and lock me out legitimately. i have to call it to their security and i feel like i'm the thief when i'm answering their questions. i plan to move on from them next year. anyway, the point is the criminals are getting smarter and eventually you'll find they know how to defeat your system when you get a bunch of charges and you find out that your alerts got disabled first or they broke into your account and unlocked your card. two factor is all my phone is good for when it comes to banking security.

Good gosh, the arguing over a $10 app download, if you like it do it , if you do not, refrain from giving the Privacy Security seminars

Checking my email today I see I got an email from Chase promoting their mobile app yesterday. Same picture as in the OP but no mention of a any credit for trying. I've never used their app before. Guess maybe the promotion ran out of funds.
